JERK jumped my car wrong! (93 XLE)
Well, I wasn't there when they jumped it. But the moron put the black on the red and vice versa. It blew something major. When I replaced the main fuses there were intermittant problems with the electrical. The dome light doesnt work, panel illumination not present, alarm / keyless entry is out, mirror adjustment, radio and engine horn are all non-functional. I have checked every fuse in the vehicle and studied the Haynes manuel yet something tells me this is an inline fuse, tucked away somewhere. Or even worse a wire got fried and lost ground... Not sure what to do next.
Dealer says he needs $227.00 dollars just to look for the problem (said something about disassembling the fuse block). Anyone had this happen or know the signal path of a misjump? Is there a main inline fuse somewhere I am missing? Thanks a ton! ~Fremen |

Nah- I wish I could claim them responsible.

Did you check the alternator? I think today's alternators have an internal regulator inside. That might have blown in the process of the bad jump attempt. Hope this helps....

Can you start the car? Is your jumped battery still good?

When my son-in-law jumped my daughter's Honda backwords, it blew the main fuse under the hood. Just follow the (+) cable on the battery.
On the Honda it went to a plastic box. I popped open the cover and the fuse was bolter down to the end of the cable. I jumped it went to parts store and bought another one problem solved. Hope that helps Andy |

Re: JERK jumped my car wrong! (93 XLE)
OMG... I went to the dealership for service and they gave me horrible news.
But first, my car runs and some electrical systems work- others dont. Alternator seems to be doing its job. So... the freaken dealer said my fuse box wires were melted and that the entire harness and box would have to be replaced. He quoted me $1,700 dollars just for the part and another 1k for labor. I cant believe this crap! Hell would have to freeze over before I would pay a stealership that. But I am also trying to weigh my option. I am supposed to drive the car across country for Christmas to see my family. Yet, I really don't want to spend it on the side of some road. Grrr...! |

No way man! Do you smell any burnt plastic or rubber? Fuses would blow before that can happen. Check for any blown fuses in the engine compartment. Do what Ringo234 said, he may be on to something.

Re: JERK jumped my car wrong! (93 XLE)
check the fuse links at the battery and the wires that go to the positive cable end. did the teck SHOW you your dammaged wires???? there are fuse boxes all over the place on those cars. left AND right side kick panels right and left side engin area and some of the fuse links are bolted in so dont think they are stuck.

Re: JERK jumped my car wrong! (93 XLE)
Yes, I did see the melted wires... I cut a few of the melted ones out at Junction box 1. I respliced them with new 16 gage wire along with some terminals. My problem arises when I recconect the melted wires into the fuse box (Junction 1). When I reconnect my battery the horn stays on until I disconnect some of the burnt wires. I am also missing a relay for some reason... Its in the main fuse box in the engine compartment... Called Fan 2 or something. Does that relay need to be there? I think my only other option is to go to a junk yard and find an entirely different harness. It will take pullying apart my dash completely and rerouting tons of cables but I cant seem to find the problem. Probably a short somewhere along the line... Anyways, pray you never have to deal with Electrical problems because honestly there is little worse...

Re: JERK jumped my car wrong! (93 XLE)
it's exactly what happened to my g/f corolla, all the instruments, lights..... went outtttt. I can't figure out how to fix. Her car was a 93 so we didn't really want to fix it from the dealer. So we ended up running with a car without music

People shouldnt be allowed to do things they dont know what they are doing. Anyways, it has to be fuses first. Its the fuses that blows up/burns before anything else.

I ended up replacing the entire interior harness (cowl and dash) - the part new was 1,700 bucks but I got a used one for 300.00. This was an intense project and involved taking my entire car apart (atleast interior). Problem is fixed now- all electrical systems worked, yet I had to mod the harness since it was made in Japan and my 3VZ-FE was assembled in America. But, that was small in comparison to wiring the entire fuse block. I think I am an expert now. If your fuses are good, expect to replace the entire harness.
