3.1 Chev V6?
I have a modified 3.1L V6 Chev Engine from a 1994 Cavalier.
Does anyone know of anything that may arise if I go to put this engine into my 2M4 86? I know that I may have to get some mounts and have the Block machined to accept the Starter on the other side of the engine. But is there anything else I should know about? |

Re: 3.1 Chev V6?
3.1 is the same block as a 2.8 just a different stroke
the 3.1 has a externally balanced flywheel while the 2.8 is internal... engine wiring harness, ecm. but if you have a 4 speed you will not have much top speed. |

The 3.1 and 2.8 FWD blocks are the same (some appearance differences, all parameters same). '87 and newer 2.8s and ALL 3.1s are internally balanced. Flywheel from 2.0, 2.2 and 2.5 also fit. The starter location for FWD is the same.
The big question is: Does the 3.1 have aluminum heads? If so, NO! It won't fit. At least not without cutting out the passenger side strut mount. The water pump and intake simply won't go. The iron heads will bolt right on the block, but... The aluminum headed engine uses a piston with a much larger "dish" that would make for under 8:1 compression with the iron heads. Hope this helps. They call me "Mr. P-Body" for a reason... Jim |

Re: 3.1 Chev V6?
I've heard the caddy 4.1 or the Buick 3.8 fit well & make it fly.
