=Progress= Gunze Sangyo Ferrari 250 GTO

Forget the ugly Enzo this is perhaps the most beautiful car ever made and this kit is pretty special too, apparently out of production since 1986. Cost me $51 plus shipping from Ebay.

As you can see the kit comes with many metal and photo-etched parts, I'm really looking forward to this. I'm going to do it red. I was going to do a 350 Z first but now I'm started I can't stop.

*Mops up saliva*

More coming soon.

Ok here starts the progress.

Although the general body shape is very good on the model the rear wheel arch flattens off on the top on this model and it doesn't look too good when the wheel's nice and round and the arch is flat. So I got out my file and rounded off the flat section. Hard to see difference on photos but it'll show when all the paints done.

Nice and round.

Next up is the front air vents, there is a forward slant to them to curb off the plactic, in the car there is no forward slant, the bonnet's just cut off for the vents. The plastic was also way too thick on the real car it's just like sheet metal the model was at least three times that. So I got my file out again and filed off the slanted section and also filed the plactic with a backward slant under the bonnet so that it looks much thinner.

Before

After

As you can see I've also now sanded down all the mould line, there were quite a lot but obviously it's worth the effort.

The only sink marks on the body are the one's on the rear spoiler lip which I've now puttied in with Tamiya epoxy putty. I've almost finished sanding them smooth.

The chassis is cast metal and the casting is pretty poor so after a lot of filing I've now primed it ready for some matt black paint (when I get some).

Sorry if I've posted too many pics, I'm trying to do a thorough progress as this is my first and I haven't got lazy yet .

As you've seen the model comes with three vents on each front wing but I think i'm gonna convert it to a 2 vent version which seems to be far more common and looks nicer to me so that's probably going to be the next part.

Just make sure that you don't create a car that never existed : all 36 GTO's are quite unique, and the Gunze Sangyo model is based on a real car (with a certain chassis number, unfortunately unknown to me). Changing too many details could lead into a non-existing car... Unless that doesn't bother you of course

I've now sprayed the body but have a bit of orange peel as you can see but it's nothing I can't sand out. (Roof rough sanded in picture) I've also panited the chassis black.

It's a shame more people on here don't like classic designs instead of "Wide Boy" cars. I'm only 17 so i'm not a ranting old man!

Anyway i've done the wheels, each wheel is 4 layers of photo-etch for the wire wheel effect and 5 bits of plastic. I sprayed them because the chrome on the plactic was a bit tacky. Sorry about the blurry pic it's hard to get this close.

Also sorry for slow progress, 5 A levels take up a lot of my time!

Completely missed this progress thread up 'til now. Good stuff. I don't care much for modern Ferraris but their classics are, well, classic! Does that verson of the kit come with an engine or purely curbside?

It's curbside but I've managed to find a seperate kit of the engine. Not sure if it's worth getting as it's the same as what I paid for the kit and might not fit in with the exhaust manifolds that come with this kit.

i love it, love it love it. nice to see a classic but timeless car being built, that would still look cool next to a 550 or an enzo.
