New Project:Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Hello all,

It's been ages since I posted here, been very busy what with Le Mans in June, WRC in Germany in July and now decorating at home, but I am managing to fit in some modelling every now and then.
This project has been on the go for a while now though, it is Luc Alphand 2002 Porsche 911 GT3 RS from Le Mans. Based on Tamiya's road going kit with a Scale Production Transkit which includes a complete new front bumper, wheel arch extensions, rear wing, and a complete new interior. Decals for this model are not available, so it's a mix of the 2001 decal sheet and some custom decals for his new sponsors.
The body has needed the most work so far, a lot of filler had to be applied to smoothen off the front arches, also quite a lot of the original body had to be removed from inside the wheel arches to allow for lowering.

The chassis is more or less complete with rollcage and added wiring detail, no real problems here except for the rollcage not fitting very well.

The body is painted in three colours, white first, then the silver and finally the blue. This is going to plan so far, some of the decals are going on at the moment.

More soon, hopefully! The decorating's not finished yet though.

Looking great Steve.

How did you find fitting the transkit? I heard that its a real nigtmare and nothing fits right, the person that built it nearly threw it down the garden on several occasions. He could just be inexperienced though.

Chris,
No, you heard right, the transkit is a bit of a nightmare, the rear arches were not too bad, just needed a bit of filling and sanding around the bottom to mould in with the body, but the front arches and the bumper didn't fit particularly well at all, a lot of filling and sanding was needed to make them follow one smooth line with the body.

Goran,
Check out the photo below, the front arches look part of the body, but the rears look like a bolted on afterwards item.

Steve (no more progress today, building wardrobes.)

How much did you purchase the transkit for?
