Ferrari 250LM 1965 Le Mans Winner - MFH 1/24
Fifty years ago, Jochen Rindt and Masten Gregory wins Le Mans 24 hours in the wheel of a Νοrth American Racing Team's Ferrari 250 LM. This is the last overall victory of Ferrari, in legendary le Sarthe circuit.
![]() So, for my new project I choose to celebrate this anniversary, with the construction of this particular Ferrari , with #5893 for serial number and the No 21 on her doors. ![]() The kit made from Climax and repacked by MFH. Not as high quality as the modern Hiro's kits, but a good starting point and of course a modelling challenge. ![]() ![]() As, I made with my PB, I checked and organize the parts. ![]() I start the progress with the wire wheels, because I need the for the future temporally assemblies. A lot of parts, but not as difficult as I thought in the beginning. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Also, I add some tyre logo decals from fujimi's 917 and made a light weathering with smoke, sealed with flat clear and a black pigment. ![]() Hope you found the project interest. Thank you for your time. Best regards George |

Re: Ferrari 250LM 1965 Le Mans Winner - MFH 1/24
Thank you Paolo and ianc. Not sure if I can build masterpieces but I try my best to an acceptable result. The kit is quite difficult and this time, it stand on her wheels with the rear bonnet can open and closed.
Yes, of course... A 956 will follow this for sure and an 917LH is in my near plans. But until them here my previous, colourful, Porsche build ![]() Thank again... |

Re: Ferrari 250LM 1965 Le Mans Winner - MFH 1/24
Hi George,
makes me "feel good" to see you facing a new challenge!!!! Oh, these "old" MFH-Kits do have a strange and morbide force of attraction......i know, i know.....but isn't that something an ambitious modeller wants and needs? It's something like a love-hate-relationship, isn't it? On the other hand, these kits are rare, expensive and offer a lot of details, parts and challenge. Once completed the feeling of MISSION ACCOMPLISHED is more powerful than at other miniatures...;-) The range of HIRO-Kits fulfilles a lot of desires, especially when it's about these brute, loud, flat, fast and oil-smelling 1960-1970's sportscars.....what an era.....imagine all these drivers......the tracks......the atmosphere in the paddocks..... Thats why i've choosen one of those legends for my next project too. After that time-and-nerve-consuming 917LH i'll start the HIRO Alfa Tipo 33/3 short tail of 1970 on monday. So i'm with you all the way, George!! All the best for you and your 250-build, i'm awaiting every update with pleasure. all the best, greets from a fan Jochen |

You are in my mind Jochen. You describe all these filling for the multi-material kits and the old sportcars, so well. Yes, the kit is a challenge, a big challenge which become bigger in every building step. But this, make you to try harder and harder, to achieve a better result. And, of course, after feedback like this, I try more. Really thank you.
Hope for a big wip on your Alfa. Great subject ![]() |

The spokes on the wheels don't look right. Seems wrong pattern.
One of my all time favorite racers!

Thank again for your comments.
Paolo, Alex says about the spokes especially of the front wheels (I think). In this area Hiro try to catch the real one where one layer of spokes are over the main ring. Here the real front wheel. ![]() Off course is a simplification of the real ones but with this layout they loose their separateness of the spokes, make them looks, not so nice. ![]() More very soon... |

Re: Ferrari 250LM 1965 Le Mans Winner - MFH 1/24
It time for an update to my work. Not something really interest but this kit need a lot of cleaning, test fitting and hole making. I organize the work to three main bunches for the engine, gearbox and suspension parts.
![]() ![]() ![]() As you can see, a lot of cleaning required. Also, the opened first holes opened. ![]() ![]() Afterwards I try to test fit the rear frame with the cockpit but it was bended to all three dimensions. Many time and a lot of fear after, I manage to have an acceptable result. ![]() ![]() ![]() Then, the subframes attached to the main engine frame, ![]() and try to correct and test fit the rear subframes, were spare wheel attached. ![]() ![]() More holes drilled to the main frame, to the positions were suspension parts, some engine components and a number of roll bars attached. ![]() Then with sandpapers, my dremel and a toothbrush I clean a lot from the parts. ![]() Finally, I put together the engine and gearbox parts. This engine part will be the main component of the most serious test fitting, of next update. ![]() Thanks for watching! George |

Re: Ferrari 250LM 1965 Le Mans Winner - MFH 1/24
Some progress on my LM with test fits (again
![]() First of all, I add some circular plastic sheet, to align the position of the engine. ![]() Then engine, attached, temporally, to the chassis. ![]() So, its time to check the position of the wheels. Not a big surprise, for sure sly: ![]() To correct this little headache, just needed to cut the metal rods, which Hiro gives for them. I make the progress in several steps, until I' m satisfied with the result. ![]() The real big problems started in next fitment test. So, after I put the wheels in an acceptable position, I realise that the suspension arms and the wheels hub, not have enough space, because of the rear wheels new position. (sorry, no photo for that ![]() ![]() ![]() I check again, and all looks al-right, so the test of the rear hood follows. ![]() But more engine cover adventures, will follow on next update. Happy Valentines day ![]() |

Wow...the detail on these kits is nothing short of amazing! Annoying that such an expensive have such bad fitment. But, there is a lesson in every kit!

Re: Ferrari 250LM 1965 Le Mans Winner - MFH 1/24
Emil, thank you for your comment. Yes, the kit has some fitment problems because it is designed away before 3D era, so some proportions made by eye! Finally, as jochen says, the satisfaction of build one of them is really a great modelling experience.

Re: Ferrari 250LM 1965 Le Mans Winner - MFH 1/24
Another little and quite boring update on my LM.
So, after wheels setup its time to test the rear hood. Firstly the rear fender attached on to the frame and then the hood takes its place, or not ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Some measurements. Hard to believe it ![]() ![]() Some cutting procedure and the hood ready attached again. ![]() After some serious sanding and a lot of test, the things starting to look better. But, is just the beginning. A lot of work needed to achieve a good result. ![]() ![]() Also, I made some other modifications to smaller parts like anti-roll bar, which main part replaced by a metal rod. ![]() ![]() That 's all for now. Maybe some painting process, follows. Best regards George |
