Report car mods to insurance company?

Do any of you tell your insurance company that you have a motor swap and a bunch of little expensive things? I just spent $4500 for my B16B and if I get in a wreck I don't want to be shit outta luck, or get money for a new DX engine. Annually, about how much more will I spend for this engine and is it worth it?

well imma just risk it instead of paying more money now, i dont think alot of peeps tell there company about the performance mods as it will increase their premium.

It will, but it will cover your parts if they get stolen/wrecked. Something like an expensive engine swap would seem like checking into unless I have to pay something crazy like $100 more a month.

Most insurance companies will cover upto $4000 in additional "modifications" (actually is setup to cover personal items which were also in the car should it be stolen / caught on fire / etc) So your motor and mods could fall under this without increasing your premium too much.

I told the insurance company about my little legal mods and I think my insurance went up about 50 bucks which isn't that bad. . What makes your insurance go up is the exterior stuff we put on our cars like moldings, kits and different lights, crap like that

Here's the best I can offer.. I work for State Farm Insurance.. So, if you get into a wreck and you don't have the mods covered, they won't pay out for it. If you have thousands on mods PLUS your car, hell yeah I'd pay extra premium for that shit.. You never know. The adjuster is only gonna give you blue book price for your car and they hardly give you anything over that. It all comes down to, do you wanna lose that much money?

That's worth it for what I have under the hood. Thanks for the replies, even on a 2 month old post

I hate to break it to you Ricochet, but bolt on mods to a DX motor= 50 dollar increase so how much do you think a Civic Type R motor will cost you. Take a look at the insurance cost difference between a 00 Civic Si and a 00 Civic DX hatch then imagine what a Civic Type R insurance would run you here in the US.

So they would treat my car as a CTR instead of a DX with a bigger engine? I don't know, I guess I could just call my insurance company and find out.

B16EJI,

Hey we go opening up a can of worms over insurance, Yeah I have little bolt ons on my D16. Yeah it's a DX but come on, your B16 isn't all that much bigger. F**k the bolts on it's what inside my engine that they don't see, and it's what INSIDE that lets me mash on B16's like yours.

Nobody's pissing on it, he's just saying insurance will be higher on an Si than a DX... untie that knot in your panties and get over it.
