RINGKÄMPFER Porsche 997GT3R 24h

Dear community,

being very motivated at the moment due to the upcoming motorsport season i started my latest project, the Fujimi Porsche GT3R in 1:24 scale.

I want to depict a car as it COULD have participated at the 24h at the Nürburgring in 2011. So no real / particular car is going to be built here but a car with a fantasy livery (although not quite sure about the colours by now…..;-) I have some ideas, but….be surprised as I’m going to be.

The Porsche will not only be finished in my typical finish line livery but will also have a physical damage at the front left wheel arch, caused by a collision / clash with another car during the tough and long race. So I will scratch some things here and there, e.g. inner housing and part of the front left radiator just to have “something there”. Call it guess work, I don’t care if it’s 100% correct. It’s just to obtain a satisfying look in the end. I only had some ref pics and I didn’t want to spent my time by searching the web for hours and hours.

Here we go:

The openings had to be cut out and were remade from sheet styrene.

The gap between the body and the chassis will disappear once when the parts are fixed and glued together

Here you can see the damage of the depending area. The sharp edged body parts will be treated in the same way as the pit crews do in real race conditions: namely fix the area with strong black tape to prevent more anger and the risk of a total loss of several parts! So wait ‘till the very end!

The central lockings……….well, I have to admit something like a small paranoia. Being not satisfied with anything I decided to make my own ones. Thinnest styrene profiles and a new x-acto blade together with some drafts of red wine gave me the energy to come over these 4 parts. But I’m pretty fine with them by now.

The exhaust is another part which also needed some activity. I made two openings in
aluminium sheet, rolled the thing like a burrito and then made two smaller pipes to put them into the holes. Then just a few details added and ready for finishing! Bare metal, just as the real one.

The seat (which really is one of the bad parts of the kit as sam01contact already mentioned) got a cover of a mixture made of warm water and white glue. Then a substance was made out of flocking powder and grinded pastel chalk and this mixture was sprinkled onto the wet surface. Due to the fact that later on the seat is barely visible I was Ok with it and additionally had no other one in the backhand).

Some parts of the interior. The fire extinguisher needed some extra detailing so as the gear shifter. The steering wheel is of very good quality and was handpainted and lettered with a 000 pencil. The ring received a treatment in the same way as the seat.

The dashboard / panel was equipped with cables and a selfmade display.

The inside before installing the rollcage and the seat. Almost every cable and extra detailing is guess work. It’s just to have something there in case of a closer look from the outside through the glasses

The rollcage was equipped with a self made interior camera hanging from the top, a manufacturer identification plate and various cables and clamps.

The y-formed part of the cage was installed AFTER the rollcage was fixed in the tub. So special care could be taken for the fitting of the seatbelts!

The interior 99% done. Lots of details will be hidden later on…….a common fate for all of us.

A few days ago I began to think about some additional small and unique gimmicks. Therefore I started sculpting my own pair of racing gloves to put on the roof. It seems nothing appropriate is on the (after)market by now so I was enforced to give it a first try. They were made out of magic sculp, formed separately and brought together when the paste was still moist. Maybe one day I’ll make my own driver, it gave me a lot of fun and I want to do more with magic sculp! A great product.

OK, that’s it for now. Thanks for your time.
Every comment is very much appreciated! Have a great time and keep your glue fluxional!

A VERY SPECIAL AND WARM THANKS goes out to Mike..........................you make my Porsche run!!!!
Thanks a lot, my friend! More to come.................be aware.

Jochen

Brilliant work, as ever Jochen...really looking forward to the progress on this build.

Hoping that the effects of the red wine helped you 'overcome' those tiny centre locks - the transposition of these words has vastly different connotations (but made me chuckle anyway!).

Waow, another killing Porsche build to follow !!
thanks for sharing this fantastic build I really love to see but will never dare to do myself. It's a real art to "ruin" a model without REALLY ruining it !!
