Hood Supports?
I'd like to put hydraulic hood supports on my '99 ZX2. Does anyone know if there is such a thing available? I thought of experimenting with trunk struts, but I'd rather get something that I know would work.

Re: Hood Supports?
Lift struts are available in about any length and with a wide range of 'push' forces. I think it would be up to you to figure out where you were going to anchor them on the hood, and on the side of the engine compartment (like close behind the strut towers)? You would need to measure the force needed to lift the hood at the point where you want it to lift itself - maybe halfway up. Then order a pair of lift struts, each one of which would be able to 'barely' support the hood by itself.
If you go to ebay and do a search on -lift struts-, you can find outfits that sell any length and force; or at least you could send them a question, asking if they had what you wanted. The lift struts should last at least half a dozen years I would think, before you would need to replace them. With some hoods I would worry about it being strong enough to be supported that way - but Escort hoods are nice and light. |
