The "Ultimate" engine : BMW Motorsport S70/2 V12

I have started this new thread to collect together all information/pics etc of the worlds "Ultimate" engine :- BMW Motorsports S70/2 V12

Hopefully if this thread generates enough content it will sit nicely in the "best of the threads" list (I thought a thread on this engine allready existed ? )

I,ll start with this excellent article from March 2004 ClassicCars magazine

Enjoy the read

Will add scan of front cover later.

Nice idea, Le Man!

For me just one article is nice, and I wonder how many will be gathered here. Then again, knowing how much articles are out there on the car itself (and I don't think we're even close to half of those, in the various article threads we have), I'm sure many more will follow :-)

Le Man, this is nice!
Never know enough about this engine.

If someone see this one on EBAY, hihgly recomended to get:
Racecar Engineering Magazine from 1996 Vol 6 No 1 will tell something how everything get started. Full report of 1996 GTR with some detail images told also by Gordon Murray; differences and changes of 1995-1997 GTR's. Fantastic story, also included the engine/Gearbox story.!
Also full Gordon Murray interview.

Yes, exactly this one!
There is one sentence on that page, which stoped me completely:

"the engine that won Le Mans 1995 was internally an untouched road car engine. Nothing was changed on it. It was re-mapped, but that was it".

Hey guys,

Does anyone have any magazine articles or books that discuss in detail, the air intake that mounts the engine?

No actual content on just the airbox alone, but the cutaway engine pic on page 104 of DA showing the airbox internals is self explanatory.

If you wish for a further detailed description of how the air travels through the roof intake and into the cylinders, plus the various components involved, feel free to ask.

Question:- name another car, other than the F1, which use,s its monocoque as an air filter housing?

Re: The "Ultimate" engine :-BMW Motorsport S70/2 V12

Thanks for the reply. I'm OK with how the intake works, I just wondered about possible articles on it that may have discussed any detail about it. I was always interested in it because it's a unique air-intake and it looks very sharp when that hood is open, it's one of my favorite pieces of the F1.

As for the picture in DA of it's internal parts, I would need to see the picture elsewhere, maybe online somehow as my book and I are a distance apart for a while. Thanks Again!

Higher resolution s70/2 photos?

Hey guys, this may seem like a weird request but I would like to change my background to some more "technical" looking pictures of the McLaren and thought it would be cool to have a high res engine shot as the background. Kinda like on page 96 or 101 of Driving Ambition. I have a couple of lower res shots that I can share. I think it might be really cool to have a shot of the engine straight on from the accessories side. I know I am asking a lot but I do think it would be cool. Thanks in advance!

I've always liked this pic, and used it for my desktop background for a while
