Re: why not a 911 contest?
my gut says it should be all Porsche.
it will make categories for a competition easier to judge if it comes to it. 356 911 race other (er.. does this include tanks....?) as for general group build, a generational display of 911 is always cool in my books.

Re: why not a 911 contest?
in my opinion should be better keep the idea around the 911 and maybe the 356s, cause the car philosophy was very near between the 2 subjects.
If we anyway want to make it as anniversary event, the date shall be fixed strictly in 1963, so this mean ONLY 901/911, that was my original purpouse. Porsche was founded if I am not wrong in 1931, and the factory production of the company was of course involved in Hitler idea, being Ferdinand so close to his political view. It means to include tanks as Elefant, Ferdinands, and the many incredibly proprotype this german genius did during his activity (VK-4501, the first series of the Kingtigers turrents, the prototypes of the schmallturm, The Maus monster.......). ...and we cant skip what is claimed to be the alltime rekord car of all times: The beetle, created by Ferdinand Porsche too. It will become too dispersive. Also cars as the 956/962 or all the "pure" racers from Le Mans, thinking at LMP1 cars, Dauer dp 962's, can make it all become too big and dispersive.I love theme, but they are probably not suitable for this idea. Of course guys this is just my opinion, if u all would prefer something COMPLETELY dedicated to porsche just tell it and we can talk. All this talk is making me in the mood to see all the boxes of my 911's around here... suspect many of u are thinking and planning some cool buildups too Phil, yes please, I remain of the idea that will be too helpful if u can help me with your forum experience.I dont claime any honor for this nice idea just want to see (and make) the models... Few basic/easy rules...and a lot of pics.

I like the idea.
I shall take a look if I have a 911 model... sure I have. Regards, Joka-1 Last edited by joka-1; 12-20-2012 at 01:49 PM. |

Re: why not a 911 contest?
Ok Paolo, well thinking to it again and reading your lines it's true that launching this idea as a tribute to the 911 anniversary it's more logical to keep it as close as possible to the 911 and her direct derivated models and evolutions.
I think there is enough to build around the 911. So the idea is to avoid all racers not build from a 911 or derivated, and as much as I know there wasn't any road version of the 956, 962 etc. But we can't avoid the 935 if not wanting to do without the exceptional 1/8 and 1/12 build around this version. So just to see if we have a first agreement on the theme it could be: For sure: 911 and derivated / evolutions - 912, 901, 964, 930, 934, 991, 993, 996 & 997. All racing (GT2/3 - what about LM GT1?) and rallying version (carrera, carrera RS, SC RS...) of those cars as tuned versions (RWB, Gemballa...) To confirm: - Boxter and cayman (close to 911 even if not 911) - 935 - 356 Excluded: - Carrera GT, Panamera & Cayenne (?) - 936, 917, 956, 962 - 924 & 944 - 914 Does it seem fair and correct ? Have I forgotten some cars ? |

think it is perfect. Cayman and 968 Boxster can be ok, too,as well as the 356 (so auw12, u are welcome ) I anyway absolutely would like to include also the 935,if u all agree. When SB masterpiece will be completed I think that model can be one of the real super ones inside our galleries. 935 was the last evolution of the 911's until the gt1's of the 90s. However we can discuss if include or not the gt1 EVO 98 (where think only the front lights were coming from the 996's), but being so rare model if someone wanna build it...we can anyway accept her imho. Of course also in the excluded cars are all the others (incredibly nice cars btw) as 908, 910, bergspyders, 904, alms, dauer, DP, zimmermann and/or 962 derivated. we can start ! the 2013 is here soon. Hope someone from porsche Ag. will take a look at this interesting collection coming soon.

Ok it seems we are our allowed entries !! I think the GT1, even if it has a road version, can be left beside. It's not really the 911 spirit but a pure LM racer. In the coming daus I will write the first shot of thread rules, but it will be very simple and all said in a few lines. I already went to the flat this afternoon to bring back home my Porsche kits !! And I finally ordered the C1-models RWB transkit. |

Re: why not a 911 contest?
ahaha...we all already planning. this is only positive.
Also i checked mines...too many ones to build...and also some mad ideas coming from the too nice newer interpretations of the classic ones as RS are. Lets plan also about the logo. we can work on something around the shape only of the 911 essential. I was thinking at the pic I posted in first page (post #6), with maybe the 50th anniversary. The font I think should be the "911 porscha" one. Also here, if someone is skilled with corel or photoshop, lest spend 3 minutes in think something nice (we shall also make a little poll for the logo if more tha one arrive). sooo?what 911 to start with for me? huum hummm.. mirror mirror on the wall..

Re: why not a 911 contest?
I realized that I forgot one of the most mythic Porsche...
the 959, what do we do with it, in or out ? It's not so far from the 911, especially in rally, but it would mean accept also the 961..? or only 959, there could be some nice build with Roman's transkit or some road version |

Re: why not a 911 contest?
If we include the Cayman and Boxster, which share many 911 components, the GT1 96 and 97 should qualify, because they do use the street 911's front end among other things. GT1-98 is a purpose-built racer, but the name is Porsche 911 GT1-98, not Porsche GT1 or anything else, so I think it qualifies as a loophole. (Doesn't mean I'm committed to building my Modeler's kit, but just sayin'.)
Perhaps, we can have two threads, one for "911 + derivatives" and the other for non-911 Porsche vehicles. (even tanks!). I also like "Everything Porsche" because it's the simplest, and we can expect a greater number of participants. |
