Re: transmission questions
Joe,
Are you in Hawaii? If so, you are going to be out of luck, since you cannot import Skylines anymore.

For an automatic, you could get one from a GTS4, which some were equipped with. The GTS4 was RB20DET powered, so I don't know how well it will hold up with the RB26.

Re: transmission questions
I don't think that tranny would match up with the RB26DETT. Here's my guess.
you can swap an RB25DET from an R33 and just drop in an RB26DETT. though it's only RWD and you have to do some oil pan modifications (understatement). SO.... I'm thinking that if you can use the 5 speed why not be able to use the automatic? This is only going to be RWD though. as far as AWD???? I'd bet that the automatic tranny from an R33 GTS25t would fit on an RB26DETT though. I'd ask Razor

Re: transmission questions
The auto GTS4 auto box will mate up slick as. However they are not the strongest and unless you plan on some internal upgrades and electronic work it wouldn't last long as even with a mildly tuned GTS4 they seem to pack up quite easily.

Is the RB26 in a GTR or in a RWD car?I'm thinking a auto from a RB25det but you might need the auto ecu?

Re: transmission questions
The RB20 tranny WILL (should) work but it is NOT designed for the power output of the RB26. It will NOT be durable as the original and you would not be awd. You would have some mods to do to get the whole thing operational.

Re: transmission questions
If anyone is intersted I have the RB25DET NEO edition engine and automatic transmission from an R34 with 20K miles for sale, it has the same HP as the RB26DETT and the same bottom end. This would be a really good swap for the Wannagtrnow guy.

1: I have an R32GTR engine and an RB25DET transmission, is the clutch and flywheel the same on the RB25DET tranny as the RB26DETT tranny with push type slave cylinder. #2 will the Rb25DET Manual tranny starter work from my automatic RB25DET tranny. |
