Window tinting; what's the standard factory level?

I understand window tinting % values are the amount of light let through. In MN, for instance, I believe the legal limit is 50%.

Now, I'm probably going to get my windows tinted, and it's mostly for looks (when is it really not???). So, I am concerned about how good it'll look at the legal limit. Without actually seeing any samples, I'm curious, what is the rating of a standard factory window? 100%? Something closer to 80% maybe?

U mean actual factory tint. Not just a clear film on the window? Factory tint is 15% the lower the percent the darker the tint

Yes, I mean the actual glass value, without any film. And I'm a little confused by your answer. If lower percentages = darker, then factory value could not possibly be 15%. Do you mean 85%?

You might want to look up your state in this page.

IWFA Automotive State Tine Laws.

Re: Window tinting; what's the standard factory level?

I just got my windows tinted 15% the other day, it looks awesome. I think 35% is the darkest you can go with it being legal, anything lower than 35% is considered illegal.

It depends on the state law.

Well i'm talking about the cars that come with some darj tint straight from the factory. That tint is 15%. The "clear" windows have a very high percent make like 90-95%. The percent refers to the amount of sunlight that passes through. 5% (which is dark like limo tint) lets 5% sunlight through. 35% = 35% of the sunlight and so on. The lower percent the dark the tint

Ah, thanks str8. If I could, I would make yours the "accepted answer" (like they do on Expert's Exchange).

Thanks for all the comments, though.
