A fine start that went down the drain, '67 GTX

Had this nailpolish in my paint stock and thought it would make a nice hue on this Revell GTX. I also tried out a tip from SAE about BMF small scripts before painting. All started well and everything looked like it would work out just fine. Discovered that the Plymouth text on the hood was to shallow because it got totaly buried under the paint and would not polish through. Had some other issues with the paint and now it's all stripped off waiting for a respray. This time with a metallic red nailpolish on silver base as I'm out of this orange nailpolish and it's no longer available. But first I will try to foil copy the body scripts and then shave them off prior to painting. I'll be back with more as time goes by, don't excpect it to happen on this side of christmas though.

Too bad it didn't work... it was beautiful.

Edit: What was the tip on the marking... it seem to do a pretty good job.

The tip was to put on the foil before painting so that fine detail don't get buried in paint. When you polish the paint the BMF comes out in the open. The good thing with this method is that you don't have to be so accurate when you put on the foil as the paint covers the edges of it. You can see in my pics that I have quite a lot of foil around the small scripts and all looked just fine but it was like a walk on the high wire to polish just enough to bring out the shine and not through to the plastic. Well, well...it's just to tuck the head in and give it another go.

That's the old one, I had four bottles and it took three to paint the whole car. So now I don't have enough to do it again in this gourgeous colour But the red one I have is also a great looking hue so I'm not to sad, just a little.

No problems if you use the right primer. Tamiyas spraycans and Modelmasters metalizers does the trick for me. So now you can join your girlfriend when she goes shopping for make-up and see the funny faces you get when the staff realizes that it's you who's to use the nailpolish I found that my red nailpolish wouldn't last a whole body so I mixed it with two different shades of orange and now it looks almost pink But I think it'll look good on the right type of undercoat, that is some darker hue like MM burnt metal. Well, well...we'll see what it looks like when done, I just put on the first primer coat today and has to fill in some imperfections and reshoot the primer again. I'll post some new pics later, now it's time to hit the sack and get some sleep.

I used Krylon primer on my nail polish Viper, Lightning and Will's Supra. I've seen oranges like that all over the place, I'm positive you can find it. It's pretty close to what I used on my Viper , actually. OPI makes one, but it's kinda pricey for nail polish. Shame, because they have a dead on GM Sunset Orange Metallic. I guess it's a lot easier for me to shop for nail polish though, being a girl and all
