2005 Marquis codes for "generator field" and "cruise control"
I recently bought an '05 LS and it's been skipping. I had an '03 Taurus that did something similar before I got rid of it but I was told it was likely plugs or ignition coils. Just came back from Advance where they ran codes for me and 2 came back: 1 for something like "generator field F" and "cruise control circuit A?" The cruise was already not working so I knew about that but does anybody know what these mean/how to solve them, and if the generator code could be the source of my skipping problem?
Thanks. |

Re: 2005 Marquis codes for "generator field" and "cruise control"
Generator Field/F Terminal Circuit
What does this mean? OBD Code P0622refers to The PCM monitors generator load from the generator/regulator in the form of frequency. The frequency range is determined by the temperature of the voltage regulator, where 97% indicates full load, and below 6% indicates no load. Symptoms Possible sumptoms of OBD code P0622 - Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light) - No start Causes Possible causes of OBD code P0622 - Generator circuit short to ground. - Generator circuit short to voltage. - Generator circuit open. - Battery-sense circuit open. - Generator drive mechanism. (belt) - Damaged generator/regulator assembly. - Damaged PCM. Possible Solutions - Battery - Alternator it is unlikely that this code would cause car to "skip"? please better define skip for me and ill try to further help.

Re: 2005 Marquis codes for "generator field" and "cruise control"
Unfortunately I didn't take them down before I left but the description you cite is exactly like the one I saw when I looked at the code reader with the store clerk.
By skipping I mean, well, skipping. Car runs, accelerates great, great power, but the car will sputter (the only way I know to describe it) intermittently. Like I said, I had an almost identical problem with a Taurus but never resolved it so I traced the problem to the source. Any ideas on the cruise control code (what might be necessary to fix that)? |

Re: 2005 Marquis codes for "generator field" and "cruise control"
well, there cold be several things to look at. first would be the throttle position sensor. if faulty will cause your exact problem. next would be fuel pressure test. lack of fuel at higher rpms. or the ignition control module. you could also have a plug or plug wire jumping spark to ground under load causing loss of a cylinder at increased loads.
let me check the cruise control lay out and ill get back with you on that issue. could just be a blown fuse. ever check your cruise cntrl fuse?

Re: 2005 Marquis codes for "generator field" and "cruise control"
if you could get the obd 2 code for the cruise it would be very helpful. call the store you took it to and if by any chance they can check their scan tool for history codes and tell you over the phone. i would then check the fuse to the cruise. check if there are any crack in the vacuum line to the cruise unit. a faulty vss (vehicle speed sensor) will also cause it to malfunction. there are alot of tsb bulletins on faulty vss for your year.
if any info was helpful please thank me. trying to build my thanks to get off newbie status.

Re: 2005 Marquis codes for "generator field" and "cruise control"
I pulled ALL the fuses today and inspected them and they're all good.
I'll call the store or even go back if I have to and get them re-read, but I remember the code included something about "circuit A." Maybe the word "high" was in there as well, but can't remember for sure. Thanks for the other ideas. Just on the plugs/wires issue, besides the ignition coil a bad wire was the first thing I thought of too, but I popped the hood with the engine on last night at didn't see any arcs. I'm no expert, but on this model the coils are on top of each individual plug, which I understand is a different design than some other vehicles. Not sure if that would prevent me from seeing arcs even if there were any, but FYI. Will be back in touch. And I went ahead and thanked you anyway. |
