94 Achieva engine fan continues to run.
Engine fan continues to run after engine is shut off, even when engine is cold. Initially had problems with overheating and now this. Fan runs until it runs the new battery down. Suspect temp sensor but not sure. Also, where is the temp sensor located and how hard/easy is it to change. Thanks

Re: 94 Achieva engine fan continues to run.
Just follow the upper radiator hose to the thermostat. The ECT sensor should be located below the thermostat housing on the lower intake manifold. Another possibility would be the ECM module.

Re: 94 Achieva engine fan continues to run.
That raises additional questions. I removed the air filter cover and the air intake hose and there are what appears to be two sending units at the thermostat housing. I disconnected the wire from the sending unit that is furthest from the drivers side and that disabled my temp guage but the fan still runs.
1. Does the ECT control the fan and the temp guage? 2. If I unplug the wire(s) from the ECT, should the fan run all the time or not at all? 3. What is the sending unit closest to the drivers side ? 4. Where is the ECM and what does it look like? Thanks |

if it were mine i would go witha new fan temp switch first
or test it with multimeter i dont know what the specs would be on it without a manual good luck

Re: 94 Achieva engine fan continues to run.
I would also look into the possibility of a stuck relay.
