replaced belts now a squeel when starting. Is it the belts?

Lost an alternator bel on 1994 pick up 15,4000 miles 22re.

Replaced it and the a/c belt. The adjuster bolt on the alternator was hand loose.

Anyway now when it starts there is a quick squeel? not real high pitched but a squeel. right at start and goes away immediatly.

have not messed with or thought about regular old belts for years, how tight should they be. could it be one or more is over tightend? Dont remember how much play they should have.

i also snapped the head off the adjusting bolt for the alternator will it come out of adjutment likely? or can I expect no trouble ?

Now it makes a different noise for 1 to maybe 8? seconds. it seems like it starts to make it again when the rpms get high, like right at shift or just past.
It is louder not high pitched kinda rough scratchy, still seems beltish but it has been so long since heard these kind of noises and had to adjust belts. Bearing?

If belt is too tight or too loose will it make these noises?
does the alternator going out sound like this?

Since the alternator lost a belt and was loose for a bit, dont lknow how long it was off either, and now it has a belt and tight it makes me suspect the alternator first.

It may be loose. And a new belt will stretch a bit and need to be re-tightened after break-in.

Late to the party, but many times an old belt will have left a lot of debris in the "V" of the pulley and the new belt can't seat, no matter how tight you make it. If reasonable tightening doesn't solve the problem, see if there is crap in there and dig it out.
