06 Lexus GS300 vs. 11 Sonata?

I am looking to buy a car that I will own for the next 5 years. I have looked around a lot and have a used cars I'm interested in and a new one I'm interested in. Which one would you choose if you were me? The Lexus has 51k miles on it and is fully loaded. The Sonata is obviously new and has Nav/leather/etc. Thanks to anyone who can offer some advice!

That's a tough one, but the lexus is a different class of car.
Have you driven both, the one you prefer and feel the best in should be the one you buy.

It depends on a couple of things: Can you afford the maintenance/repair bills on the Lexus to get another 5 years out of it. The Hyundai will be under warranty so there's little risk for expensive surprises like there is with the Lexus. If you're financing the deal, typically you'd get better rates on the new car vs. the used one. The rational choice is the new Hyundai - unless you want the Lexus bad enough to take the expense/risk that comes with it.

Oh, personal choice is Lexus over hyundai. But I recommend driving each car and see what you like better, and definetly take into account the cost of owning the Lexus

Some are having tranny issues w/ the new Sonata. Reportedly that they get stuck in 4th gear after hearing/feeling a "loud bang". Car needs to be stopped and restarted to get out of 4th gear. Sometimes engine check light goes on and Hyundai replaces the trans. Sometimes the engine check light does not go on and dealer will not fix. No word of recall in the works. There is the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty but consumers worried bout safety issues while driving.

The Sonata w/ direct fuel injection will give you much better MPG on the other hand.

My Personal choice would be lexus but.. I think other things into consideration. It would be wiser to go for New Sonata.

One thing to consider is the Sonata will have a warranty whereas the Lexus is likely out of warranty and will have more expensive parts than the Hyundai, which means more out of pocket costs to you. If you're looking at a price difference that isn't too large, I would go with the new car over the used, for the simple fact of the warranty coverage.

If it was my choice I would easily choose the Lexus,its in a different class but that comes with higher running and repair costs,so keep this in mind

I bought a Hyundai brand new drove it 100,000 kilometers in 2 years only problem I had was a faulty hazard switch and 1 set of spark leads was a fantastic car to drive great fuel economy very peppy rev limiter cuts in a 6500 rpm scared the shit out of me the first time it happened
