'95 3800 engine trouble codes?

I had a new long block installed in my '95 Old 88. Now the check engine light comes on! The dealer said it was the computer and put a new one in for the tune of $600! But the check engine light still comes on!! Does anyone know of any common trouble codes associated with this engine i should look out for. Thanks! Kevin

Welcome to AF, so the dealer spent 600 for an ecm but the problem still exists, seems like you should have some issues with that, but in the meantime what were the codes before and what are they now, you omitted the most important info required for any type of advice here.

That's just it. I can't trust them to fix it right. So I don't know what code it is. I was hoping you heard of a common trouble code that I could start with on my own. Thanks. Kevin

1.)GOTO advance auto and get them to read the codes. Its for free. They will give you a little printout with the codes on it. Post them here and we will have at it.

2.) You also have to be very detailed here if you want people to help. Dont just write that your car is missing or sputters or is makin a weird noise. Try to give GOOD detailed explanations.

You may have the transitional year ob1.5 and will require a highline scanner to access codes, AZ may not be able to do this.

Regular odb-i has a 12 pin data link connector where transitional odb-i should have the 16 pin like odb-ii.

Re: '95 3800 engine trouble codes?

Hi Guys! Thanks for the great info so far! I looked at the connection and it looks like it has 16 pins. But the sticker under the hood say OBD I. Is this the transtional OBD 1.5? If it is, does it take a special scan tool or can the traditional hand-held ones work.
Also, is there any such connection that only has 8 pins?

Thanks! Kevin

It sure sounds like transitional odb 1.5. Quite sure you will need the special scanner tool.

I've heard of the obd-ii scanners not working due to the wiring of the data port and the fact that it is an odb-i ECM module.

Re: '95 3800 engine trouble codes?

I have the 16 pin connector in my 95 88 LSS. Which pins do I jump for the code?
