Best way to Sell Car myself?
I'm trying to sell my 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and wonder if anyone has any suggestions about how to go about doing so. I put an ad in the local paper and its online affiliate as well as on cars.com. Plus, I have it sitting in the street with for sale signs. So far, I've only received 2 calls. Any ideas how to better garner some interest?

Re: Best way to Sell Car myself?
www.craigslist.com. Have it detailed and take some dramatic pictures of it. Choose diffused light in the evening or morning, and try alternative angles. Lay on the ground or stand up on a ladder.
Make it look flawless, but describe every single flaw. That way they are drawn in by the photos, impressed with the honesty, and they will be pleasantly surprised when they come to view it. Host the photos on a website and then you can put them on craigslist free. Otherwise, recycler.com is another nationwide classified that works pretty well. Before you offer for sale, pick an advertised price that is a fair market value, but have a number in your head that you won't go under. For instance, ask $10k, but don't go any lower than $8500. Having that number in your head will prevent you from going too low just to unload the truck.

Re: Best way to Sell Car myself?
Thanks very much for your advice. I followed it to the T, and posted my Jeep on Craig's List this morning. Thanks again.

Re: Best way to Sell Car myself?
I just got a response from Craig's List from someone saying they were interested but live in Canada and would pay for shipping. I live in Kentucky. How do i go about shipping the car to this person? And are there any other issues I need to be aware of in selling it to someone there (i.e. taxes?)?

Re: Best way to Sell Car myself?
they are responsible for taxes, and tell them to arrange a shipping company, that way they get the shipping company they want and can't whine about not being happy with it later

Re: Best way to Sell Car myself?
I'm wondering if this guy is trying to scam me though b/c he offered to pay with a certified US cashier's check. Does this sound like a scam or a legit offer?

Re: Best way to Sell Car myself?
Is there anywhere to list a car for sale on this site?

I posted my Chrysler town and country mini van on Carsoup.com for $25 until it sells deal. We got 4 cars within a week and we sold it within 2 weeks. It is amazing how fast we got people calling us. But of course, if you want to get more response, you will need to spend more than 25 dollars to add pictures to your ad. But it is all worth it. Good luck in selling your car. |
