Steering Wheel Radio controls problem..
I have the optional radio controls on the steering wheel on my 2001 Firebird. I have recently replaced the stock Monsoon Delco deck with an aftermarket deck. However, the controls on the steering wheel do not work now. The controls are simply basic like Mute, Seek, Volume, AM-FM so I assume it will be compatible with my new deck. Any suggestions on how to solve this problem?

Re: Steering Wheel Radio controls problem..
Well the stock wiring harness has those controls wired in. So when you buy the aftermarket wiring harness for your aftermarket deck they are prolly not there. I dont know if you will be able to use them ever again without the stock deck. Thats why i left mine stock... Its got everything that the aftermarket one does anyway plus it matches the interior... you can still hook up an amp and shit to the stock deck....If you want the steering wheel accessories to work then you might be better off staying with the monsoon deck....There may be certain aftermarket decks that are compatible with the steering wheel buttons, if there is I have not heard of one yet. Good Luck

Re: Steering Wheel Radio controls problem..
I think you should have specified to have the stock steering wheel controls hooked up when you had the install done. That would seem like a no brainer to me if I was working on the car. I'm sure it can be done, it would be retarded if it couldn't be...

Re: Steering Wheel Radio controls problem..
i do the car audio installations myself...it actually cant be done with after market head units, unless they make one specifically designed for it. There is wiring harness slot just for the steering wheel adjustments thats goes into monsoon stock deck. And that has no place to go on an aftermarket head unit...sorry i have the same probelm but with a remote its not a big deal to me i got used to it

Re: Steering Wheel Radio controls problem..
If your new head unit has a remote you can use a steering wheel control interface. they turn your steering wheel radio controls into the remote.

Radio Controls Stock?
I just purchased a Z28 steering wheel for my V6 Camaro. (They are both 2000) The wheel has Radio controls but my car didnt. Is the car prewired for the controls STOCK? Do I need to buy anything else?
Thanks Mark |
