Question ABS light on after changing hub

I had a noise in the front of my 2000 Blazer. Come to find out it was the front right wheel bearings. So I had a guy changed out the hub and put on new rotors and brake pads (both sides on brakes). He did not put on the new sensor that came with the hub, just mounted the old one.

Now the ABS light is always on. He said to take to the local tire shop and they could clear the codes and the light would go out.

Is this true? I thought the onboard computer ran a set of diagnostics every time the vehicle was started, and if nothing was wrong no lights. But the past codes would still be stored to be pulled with a coded reader later.

I have not had this on a scanner yet, wanted to see if I should install the new sensor to see if it fixed the problem first.

Thanks for all the help in advanced.

Bill

Re: ABS light on after changing hub

The code will not or light go out if it has a problem.
What was the reason he did not use new sensor?
Put the new sensor on and see what it does.
Report back how it goed.

Re: ABS light on after changing hub

He didn't want to take the time to undo the clips that hold the sensor wire to the frame. He was running behind since getting the old hub off took more time than he thought it would.

Re: ABS light on after changing hub

In other word he half done his job and wants you to finish it up for him!!!!!
Did he do it for half price?

Any time a new sensor comes with a bearing always us it.

Replace it and let us know what it does.

It was done as a freebie to help out my 16 year old daughter, her Blazer. Goes to show, free is not always better, and, if you want something done right, do it yourself.

Re: ABS light on after changing hub

When you remove the original sensor to install the replacement, compare the length of the sensor under the mounting. If there is a difference, you may have found the problem.

Re: ABS light on after changing hub

I installed the new sensor. ABS light went out. Now every time you use the brakes they pulse light the anti-lock is kicking in.

Any clue as to why?

Thanks

Re: ABS light on after changing hub

Yes you have a ABS problem.
Get it on a ABS capable sanner and get codes and read out all wheel speed sensors.
They should match.
If not post back and also post back ABS code no.

Re: ABS light on after changing hub

Got the truck into the shop today. Found out the ABS sensor on the new hub was bad. O'Reilly Auto Parts would not just trade me sensors (warranty), had to have the hub and everything back. So I pulled off the new hub and replaced it. Everything seems to work fine now.

Thanks for all the help i got.

To help others tell us.
HOW DID YOU FIGURE OUT IT WAS BAD?
Was you using the Good BCA National bearings or the cheap 90 day wonder bearing
In cases like them being that particular unless they pay the extra labor changing the hub again I would have got another hub bearing and sensor and just have switched sensors and greased up the new bearing and box and bacd sensor and pitched the hole mess back to them.

Took to the local shop and had them put it on their code reader.

The bearing was from O'Reilly, it was National Bearings brand. Not the instore brand.

I was just happy they warrantied the Sensor. Only took me (didn't let the other guy do it) about 2 hours total to change out.

Just happy it is fixed. Now I can move on to the fuel gauge not working. I'm sure that is a sending unit, just haven't wanted to drop the tank to work on it.
