V8 5.7 liter 300ZX
Hey all, Im back in Mexico. One of my best friends has a Civic EX 2001 and decided to build a car for the track and street. He bought a 300ZX TT, without the engine and transmission.
He just dumped an LS1 engine from a Camaro, 5.7 liter V8 305 horsepower, i dont know much about muscle car engines but thats what he said. He ran the car at the track and got a 13.4 in the quarter mile, which seems pretty good. Im going tomorrow to his house, im going to drive it around for a while, it must be a beast, the bad thing for me is that it is an automatic. Ill post some pictures of the engine and the car in the upcoming days. Peace. MexSiR

Re: V8 5.7 liter 300ZX
Well guys, the car did NOT have an engine or a transmission, here in Mexico it is really hard and expensive to buy a twin turbo 300zx engine. You can easily and cheaply buy an LS1, for a lot less than half the price, twin turbo nissan engines are very exotic compared to "Mass Produced" ls1 engines. Believe me, he wanted a twin turbo engine but it was just out of his budget. Ill bring pictures and car specs after i drive it, right now its 4 a.m and ive drank toooo much Coronas...peace.

Would you call my buddies 240z gay? He's got a 400ci Small block Chevy w/ TH350 3 speed auto. Pushing around 450-485hp. It ran into the 11s (I don't remember the exact number, think it was 11.5 but not positive) in the 1/4 mile on slicks and race gas along with open headers... Gay? Yeah... sure is.

Hola Edgar, Coma esta? Toma usted el aeroplano para ir a Mejico? Deseo mucho hablarle, pero no hablo espanol bien.
I use to live in Jalisco 2 hours east of you in Autlan. I now live in Baja Norte. It was just too hard traveling to the US every week racing so I moved closer to the border. I'll be retiring this year from racing and getting red of alot a Z's and Z parts. To bad your friend didn't get hold of me, cause I have a turbo engines out of the Z31 znd Z32 I don't use and never will. I was very suprised when you said your friend had a 300ZXTT. Was it imported? The Gringo's don't understand the problems Mexicans have with cars in Mexico. I don't think there's 10 300ZX in All of Mexico and I own over half of them. What year is your friends Z? |

I was thinking of a Ford DOHC V8 or Northstar engine before I went to the VH45DE. The main reason I went VH is class rules require the engine be of the same mfg. as the body, and hooking up the transmission. Now I'm glad I went that way. As for his 300ZX with a LS1 only having 5 HP more than a VG30DETT, golly gee, thats with a N/A engine. Bring it up to TT specs and guess what? Smoke time. The only problem I see is it will lose some of it's handling ability with the added weight in the front, but in Mexico 99% of the roads are straight, so I don't see any problems. And being the 300ZX is a little on the heavy side the added torque of the LS1 would be a major plus. |

remember, anything you spend on one car you can spend the same on another. the LS1 will always take the 3.0L in the long run but it takes away the character of the car...yeah its different, yeah it original, yeah i wouldnt mind seeing it, yeah i would give the guy props for the work he did to do it....but NO its not the same and i would never do it to my car, just like i would never swap in a VH45DE in a 300zx, but im not gonna care if someone else does it. i have nothing against it a long as it isnt my car. i figure you can do whatever you want to your car...if i like it, i like it. if i dont, i dont. its your car and if you like it, thats all that matters. like i said, im anxious to see pics...but i still would never do it to my car.
