99 Yukon Headlamps go off at worst possible moment
Driving down the road with brights on and all four headlights go completely out. Talk about freaking out. I pull over pull back the dash at the headlamp switch and the back of the switch module is HOT. At about this time, the lights come back on enough for me to drive it 3 miles back home and get another car to drive to work. I think I had switched it to the dims only for the trip home.
I had the same issue a month ago and noticed a hot spot- (melted plastic) on the male terminal base on the back of the headlamp switch module. So I installed a brand new switch module hoping all was fine. So I am assuming that this switch module has an overload circuit breaker or heat-sensitive shut-off switch built into it of some sort. No fuses blow, and no relays seem to be faulty. So I am testing it now by driving only during daylight but with only dim lights on. So far, the lights stay on, and the back of the headlamp module is only warm to the touch. One would think if a high amp draw was happening, that the headlamp fuses would blow. I have zero confidence in driving in the dark now. Luckily I go to work in the daylight at 730pm and come home in the daylight at 7 am. Has anyone experienced this before?

Re: 99 Yukon Headlamps go off at worst possible moment
I believe the only potential source of heating in the headlight switch is the instrument panel lamp dimmer. Anything else would be an indication of a failing/resistive connection, not a breaker in the switch.
