No or Dim Odometer/PRND321 on 1997.5-2004 Buick Regal IP Display
Applicable to 1997.5 to 2004 Buick Regal LS/GS. Also, Buick Century.
Here is an easy and inexpensive DIY fix for a dim or no odometer/PRND321 at the instrument panel cluster. The fix involves replacing 4 resistors that will either have either poor solder joints or in most cases blown and missing. The replacement resistor will be 150 ohm 1/2 watt. Resistors are available at stores like Radio Shack or similar. Cost is around $1.19 for a 5 pack. You only need to replace 4. To get started first review the two YouTube videos at the links below. First removing the plastic dash bezel and second disassembly of the IP cluster and the actual repair. The job took me around 90 minutes including cleaning. Also, see my pics posted below and summary of the repair job. 1) Removing plastic dash bezel 2) Disassembly of cluster and repair Dash bezel removed. Next remove the 4 screws holding the IP cluster to the dash. Use a cross-tip screwdriver. Pull cluster and remove wiring harness connector. Resistors bought at Radio Shack. 150 ohm 1/2 watt. Shows the area where the 4 resistors are located. Marked by red arrows. Be sure to clean up the square pads where you will solder the resistors. Note: Do not use too much heat or keep the soldering iron on the contact points too long otherwise you may damage the printed circuit run. Shows new resistors soldered in. Note: You will need to bend the resistor legs to match the two square contact points. Completed job. Nice and bright odometer/PRND321 display. If you have any questions feel free to PM/email me. Also, you can post in this thread. Good luck!
