Astra color scheme (Tamiya)

Look at this picture:

As you can see there's some gray on the rear.

Since I was planning to build this car I was wondering is it's like that in real life because there's no indication on the manual about that. I know Tamiya makes mistakes sometimes (Toyota GT-one).

Any real life pictures of this car somewhere?

Thanks.

Fixed

It doesn't look like shadow/refelection to me... it's weird. I wont start this kit until I'm sure. I'M gonna keep looking.

Could it possibly be a shadow being cast by the rear wing?

If you look behind the rear wheel, that is definately painted not shadow. But from what I have seen, it should just be white :-

Example pic

All the photos I have seen of the real car show the rear completely white.
Another photo of the model:

Now I see it! I'm sure that the section you've highlighted should be all white...

PMan would know, he's built this kit. It might even be in his section of the gallery if you want to try and find another pic of this kit.

Judging by the real-life picture, it's obvious that the rear should be white.

Thanks

(btw, that's a great picture )

Thanks everybody.

Maybe it's a Trevor Pask preshading job(LOL). Maybe the builder is trying to cover some mistakes. Here is a pic of the real car.

you should get more info on the model, maybe its a build for a vertain race where it has that scheme.

also, the GT-one does not have a mistake on it, at least not if you talking about the white triangles. you see, one of the cars where like the Tamiya and the other was not. it was one way to identify the cars when they where coming by the pits.

Are you sure about that?

Because all gt-one I saw had a full white triangle on the front (except the one with the funny white flames). There's also something else that is weird. it's the little white rectangle on the top and the side of the rear spoiler. if you look at the picture it's got little red triangle to make it look like a marlboro logo. But there's absolutely no mention about it in the instruction paper, but the little red triangles aer on the decal sheet.

My guess is that since the anti-tobacco law in motorsports, Marlboro stayed with toyota but had to remove their logo. so instead they put the white rectangle with the red triangle. But why would Tamiya overlook something like that...

One thing I know for sure is that I've never seen any GT-one they way it's pictured on the box. And the car on the box is supposed to be the Number 3 gt-one that was driven by the Japanese dudes at le-mans in 99.

There's is definitely a mistake or a modification in design because of legal restrication or whatever.

It's a legal restriction...Tamiya ran into sponsoring issues with some of the companies, so they left those companies off the decal sheet. Best off getting an aftermarket one with correct markings, or better yet, the "funny white flames" version.

"funny white flames" version was the paint scheme from the 1998 le mans race
