91 astro van electrical problem

I have a 91 astro van awd auto 4.3. When the right hand signal light is turned on the dash lights blink on and off opposite the signal light. I have tried grounding the light sockets, which were fine and no help from grounding. I have in the recent past had the lights working fine but when the engine reached operating temp the lights go dim and stay dim until the car is shut off for a period of time. that is only intermitent. I found the wire to the temp sensor burned and grounded to the manifold and reinsulated it. The wiring harness looks pristine and never tampered with. I took the steering column apart and it looked fine. no aparent shorts. The dash lights do not blink when the fourways are turned on. vin 1GNDL15ZXMBXXXXXXTHANKS mrjbnak@yahoo.com

Re: 91 astro van electrical problem

Check the I/P connections and the foil traces on the back of the I/P, and the mating connector in the dash. The copper can get corroded and move around allowing cross-connections and poor contact. The older series instrument panels are a little easier to remove than the '94+ series, so consider yourself lucky.

BTW - I removed the last six digits of your posted VIN since we don't need them to identify the model and it's usually not a good idea to post a complete VIN for the entire world to see (and use). We can learn WAY too much about you from information like that.
