Re: Fuel pump install '97-'03

On my 97 the valve is on the fuel pump regulator.

Here is a picture of the regulator with the black cap that looks like one on a tire valve.

The regulator is located under the hood about 1 foot away from the oil fill and is about the 1 oclock position.
Here is a picture.

If you have any specific questions just fire away and I'll try to help. Be sure to list what vehicle you have and the year and engine size.

The same for all GM cars with the NA SII 3800 engine and L67 engines. However the fuel pressure regulator on a L67 is located by the supercharger snout on the front fuel rail.

2001 Grand Prix Fuel Pump replacement

I looked through Jem270's post on the fuel pump so I thought I'd give it a shot. However as I went to remove the fuel pump I had trouble getting the retaining ring through the opening of the access panel. The retaining ring on my 2001 appears to be different than what jem270 is showing. Does anyone have experience with it. Is there a trick to how to tilt the pump and ring to get it through the access panel.

Welcome to AF. Your post has been merged with the thread addressed.

Are you sure yours is different? It would help to remove all the old dirt and rust/corrosion. The retaining ring should be a big c-clip that you can use snap ring pilers on. Also, you can use a flat bladed screwdriver. Plus it would help to spray the area lightly with WD40 or PB Blaster.

Re: Fuel pump install '97-'03

I've done 90% of this job, and I'm stuck at trying to get the snap ring back on that holds the entire assembly in place. It just won't go down enough to rotate and snap back in place. Any ideas?

Re: Fuel pump install '97-'03

Update. After much grunting I finally got the ring back on. But I only got 3 out of 4 clips secured. I tried to see if it would shake loose with only 3 and it doesn't appear that it will. I test drove the car and there are no fuel leaks.

Will this be ok with only 3 secured?
