Trans jerk when cold
99 5.3 silverado.
I always start this truck and let it run a few minutes before driving. Drive slowly for the first couple of minutes as well. Typically it seems to shift from 1st into 2nd somewhat hard when it's cold (almost like it's being slung into gear if that makes sense). After those first few minutes it shifts just fine. Thoughts?

Re: Trans jerk when cold
High line pressure due to cold (thick) oil.

[quote] about 17 yrs ago as the cold weather came , temps around 40F I was having the upshift harsh when cold engine .. so I called up service manager he said this is normal as the tranny has a temp sensor and when its below a certain temp the upshifts will be stronger and also delayed ,but when the tranny temp rises then it should shift normal.. so when it is cold out I will start engine let it idle 5 min then shut it down . then 15-20 min later start it up and the harsh upshifts most times will not do it. on a day like now zero F out I will let it run 10-15 min .. also cover radiator with a plastic sheet . warms up faster save on the gas .. upshift delay when this cold I certainly do not like ...only vehicle I have owned did this .. |
