05 GMC Yukon New Battery/low amps/clicking starter

The other day my wife came home and parked her 05 Yukon for the evening, just like any other day. The next day went to start it, and a semi rapid “click, click, click”. Low amps(3-4.5) on voltmeter, so I replaced the battery. Brand new battery, still reading low amps, still clicking. All lights and windows still have enough power to function properly. Tried tapping the starter… however, I don’t think that would effect the voltmeter. Any input would be greatly valued. Thanks in advance.

Re: 05 GMC Yukon New Battery/low amps/clicking starter

I'll guess that you really meant to report "low voltage" in the instrument panel indicator.

The battery positive cable connections, MAXI fuses and their connections, and grounds are suspects, as well as I/P and ignition switch connections. Diagnosis by verifying proper power (with a voltmeter) at various points in the system could be very revealing. The main power node stud(s) at the underhood electrical center is a good place to begin.

Re: 05 GMC Yukon New Battery/low amps/clicking starter

Check and clean your battery connections. I once had a car refuse to start. Checked the battery voltage and it was at 12.8 static which is more than enough to start the car. I put a battery charger on and it still wouldn't start. I pulled the cables, cleaned the terminals and it fired right up.

Thanks to both of you. I just got back from having the starter tested. Passed with flying colors. I’m heading back out to the shop to reinstall the starter, then start with simple terminal cleaning, then I’ll go from there. I greatly appreciate the input.
