How to install a new cd player?
Ok ya i have a 97 lumina ls
and currently i have my portable cd player hooked up through a cassete tape thing, and im sick of having to always turn off the player (or itll run down my batteries in the cd player) since i dont have a car adapter for it i wanna get a new cd player, probly this http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1099397002981 i was wondering, how do i install it? they have those shim kits and stuff dont they? does best buy or circuit city have em? also will it look really bad? i checked car domain and all the pics i saw of cd players in the luminas stick out a few inches so ya how do i install it? and how do i take out the old one? and with the wiring are all the speakers and power connected through one wire and i just plug it into the new cd deck? |

Re: How to install a new cd player?
they make installation adaptors so the radio fits the hole in your dash, and wiring adaptors to plug into your factory harness. Many aftermarket radios have a deeper mounting depth than your factory unit, so the installation adaptor may stick the new radio out an inch or 2, whether or not it's ugly is subjective.

Re: How to install a new cd player?
hey, I found spray paint to match my interior and painted my install shim kit. It looked pretty nice. And sorry to tell ya, but Dual cd players suck. I had one, and it always frickin skipped especially when cold. I ripped it out and installed a Pioneer. You'ld be better off to find a remanufactured pioneer head unit on ebay than that crappy brand new dual. Kenwoods and alpines are also good cd players. As for you shim kit, yeah, paint it to match, and the kit you can get a wall mart, and it will come with instructions to make it fit perfect in you car. Also get a wire harness for your car to plug the deck straight to your factory plug. I hate to mention it, but gm's antenna plugs are smaller then standard aftermarket, so you will also have to buy an antenna adapter. I got the whole set up at Target for 14.99. at Wall mart you have to get them seperate for about 10 bux each. You do the math. Good luck.

Re: How to install a new cd player?
I'm liking the Sony from Circuit City and the Kenwood from Best Buy. I'm sure you might even be able to find those cheaper on ebay or something. Just my opinion though, in the end, it's up to what you want.

save yourself some hassle and get the low model Alpine. Like $160. all those other ones will break. Everyone i know uses Alpine head units and all of them, even the cheapest ones, are awesome, no problems. avoid motorized ones because they have a greater chance of breaking.

Re: How to install a new cd player?
in my opinion, not to go aginst what others say, sony isnt very high end. If you looking for quality, probably like alphalanos said, go with alpine. And also, like I said, try ebay for refurbished ones. They are the ones that something has alrady gone wrong, they were brought back to the factory, and completly redone. Look at it this way, if a cd player has a weakenss, if you buy a refurb, the weakness has already been exposed and fixed. Also, they are a lot less expensive, and can be a lot better quality. In other words, what would you rather put in your car.... A brand new cheap cd player ($150.00) or a used thats been completly cleaned redone and repaired, is better quality, more features, and costs about the same, if not less. (150.00-200.00). Your decision I guess. I will post some nice cd players I find on ebay in a few moments. Take a gander at them. Oh, yeah, Dont go by if the web site says it fits or not. If its single din size, it will fit with the correct mount. which was the one you had found at wal-mart. double din also fit, although requre a different mount.

Re: How to install a new cd player?
here is the one I had in my car and took out. Very very nice head unit. I regret it, sounded very good from the factory speakers.
http://cgi.ebay.com/XM-PIONEER-DEH-P...QQcmdZViewItem If the picture doesnt load, go here and use this pic as reference. http://cgi.ebay.com/Pioneer-DEH-P650...QQcmdZViewItem Want a nice alpine? http://cgi.ebay.com/Alpine-CDA-9826-...QQcmdZViewItem or even a decent sony (although I'd advise aginst sony) http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-SONY-CDX-F55...QQcmdZViewItem And another pioneer (I'm a pioneer fan myself) http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-PIONEER-DEH-...QQcmdZViewItem Even some clarion are decent units http://cgi.ebay.com/CLARION-PROAUDIO...QQcmdZViewItem and a JVC http://cgi.ebay.com/JVC-2005-KD-AR86...QQcmdZViewItem Last but not least, even a panasonic. http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-PANASONIC-CQ...QQcmdZViewItem Just to give you a little more idea about whats out there. DONT BUY WALL MART SHIT. Only the install brackets and wires. Companies make cheap units to sell to wall mart for discount prices. trust me, you'ld be better off buying refurbs and used units over ones from wall-mart and even best buy for that matter. They boast free installation, but you are actually paying for it. The unit price is always more than anywhere else. And plus they are so easy to install, you can wire them toghether and set the bracket up via the instructions at your kitchn table, and spend an hour dismantling your car, put it in and back toghther. Its very easy. I've dont it for so many friends. Plus so many times for my car(s). Good luck, and let us know how you end up turing out, and what you end up buying.

Re: How to install a new cd player?
see? There are way better ones out there than crappy duals and durabrands. So your going with the panasonic? He He He. Plenty of good features, and plenty of room for add ons in the future, good choice.
