Question 1993 TransSport Passenger Side Power Window Problem

I tested at the motor connector, the switch, door boots, etc..
It seems like there is a ground problem, like the switch isn't delivering a ground for the 'down' selection.
Any place else I can check for ground other than right at the switch by using a hot jumper wire.
Any ideas? Does it sound like the switch?

Re: 1993 TransSport Passenger Side Power Window Problem

It is very possibly a switch, but don't rule out the master switch on the driver's side. Power and ground to the passenger side window switch is routed through the master switch. If the window operates from the driver's master switch, and the window override switch is not in the lockout position, the power and ground for the passenger switch may be faulty.

A diagram would help a lot.

Re: 1993 TransSport Passenger Side Power Window Problem

It doesn't operate at all from the driver's main switch, and it only works 'up' on the passenger switch. I don't think there is an override switch. It seems like there is enough power everywhere. I think it is a ground problem; either a wire or one or both of the switches.
I will focus on the main switch side first.
Thanks BB

Has anybody ever had any luck pulling one of those switches apart to restore it's function?
The TSs are getting hard to find at the wreckers, and eBay will skin ya if you'll let em.

Re: 1993 TransSport Passenger Side Power Window Problem

I've been able to repair lots of the Alps switches used in GM vehicles from the late '80s onward.

I've had some mixed results in Chrysler applications, since they seem to use some of the lightest-duty parts available.

Thanks for the link. I have had mixed results over the years but I often try. Good to know you have had success with GM switches.
I am in the shop now checking out some ground issue possibilities. I will get back with results.

Re: 1993 TransSport Passenger Side Power Window Problem

Hey BB,
The switches were good. Most of the problem besides being in serious need of lubrication on tracks, wheels, linkages, and switches was broken wires, 16ga ground wire feed for the other side door lock, and 12ga? blu/wht tracer feed to the passenger side switch.
I used lithium spray grease in the driver's door until I ran out. I finished up with 3in1 silicone lubricant spray (supposed to leave long lasting film, and not hard on rubber parts.
No rebuilding switches this time; maybe next time
