For ONCE can someone answer this: Broken Rear Gate (not glass)

Ok, I have posted about this before and got nothing out of it, but here goes. The rear lift gate is broken on my 00 jimmy, not the glass, granted the blue actuator broke but since i have been fighting to find a way to fix the gate for the past year i already knew how to fix this.

Anyway, the rear gate (not glass) has not opened for a while and it is locked and does not unlock by remote or by button on the doors. Does anyone have any idea in the world how to get it unlocked so i can open up the door and remove the panel and fix it. I cant remove the panel until i can open the door.

Please do not try to tell me how to fix the actuator for the glass or i swear to god i will kill someone.

I want so badly to tell you how to repair the actuator for the glass that I can hardly stand it.

Do you really, really, really want to at least slap me now?

Re: For ONCE can someone answer this: Broken Rear Gate (not glass)

Did I not help you with your stereo issue, was I not the one who knew what was holding it in... from memory no less? Now you repay me with this, In fact I could have removed, wire, and installed a stereo and cd changer in less than 45 minutes. hows that.....

I see how people are...

Problem is no one knows, how about this, someone take off the inside panel and take pictures of the mechanism and the bottome of the gate where the latch is. then email me with them chrisagoodfellow@sbcglobal.net

If i knew where to pull to release it manually it would be done

Re: For ONCE can someone answer this: Broken Rear Gate (not glass)

45 minutes, huh? You're on. I'll be home by 5:30, and I have beer in my fridge. Excellent meal for you as an added bonus if you beat your own time.

Seriously-if I knew how to do it, I swear I'd share. If I felt confident that I could take mine apart and take pictures for you and get it back together again correctly, I'd do that in a hot second. I'll give you this much - - - I'm going to be elbow deep in this freaking truck again this weekend, and with help this time so if no one has given you anything to go on by the time I leave here on Friday, I'll do my level best to get into it and take pictures for you over the weekend.

Pinky swear.

OK well once you get the panel off. you will need to...........

I kid, I kid
If I remember right, there are only 2 screws holding the side of the panel on and one screw that holds the trim to the top of the door (must be accessed from outside with the window open.
You can pry the trim back far enough to actuate the rods to open the door. It takes a little finess, but you can remove the panel back far enough to get the endgate open to fully remove the panel.

Re: For ONCE can someone answer this: Broken Rear Gate (not glass)

sounds good, I honestly need a little more detail, I can see the rod going from the handle down to a connector near the actuator but i dont see it connecting to anything else. below that i cant see because the trim contours around the floor

wow, that picture looks so familier, I feel honored. But anyways, I'm not sure whats happening exactly. Did you try to open the hatch via the key/remote (if equipped)/ button on dash? Whats it doing? Or not doing? Do you hear an actuator click?

Re: For ONCE can someone answer this: Broken Rear Gate (not glass)

OK the button on the dash does not open the door only the glass, as for the remote that was lost and replaced with a stock 3 button remote, this will lock and unlock everything as normal.

The door handle on the back will not unlock and therefore i can not get it to open. the door lock actuator makes no sound so this tells me it does not work, as well i took out the screw under the lip of the glass and pushed the trim open about 4 inches, got my arm down to the actuator for the lock and pulled one of the plugs and while hitting the lock checked the voltage with my volt/ohm meter and it bounces to like 13.7 showing that it is sending power to unlock it.

So in all, the door (again not window) on my back hatch will not open, to clarify this is due to the lock actuator being burned out, is there a way to manually unlock the back door? I can get the window open and pry the panel back a little but i can not remove it since the door wont open. if anyone can take photos of this assembly with the panel off so i can take a look and see what needs to be moved to unlock it, this would be great.

Re: For ONCE can someone answer this: Broken Rear Gate (not glass)

Chris,

I'll be leaving here for the weekend at 5:00 this evening. I've printed off everything in this thread to take with me so I can try to get the pictures you want / need the most, at least.

Last call! If there's anything else you want me to jack around with "while you wait" this weekend, since I'm already going to get myself into a world of trouble anyway, now's the time to let me know.

I'll check back in before I leave this evening. If I get a chance to pop my head in here before work on Monday, I'll just email you eveything I have so you don't have to wait all weekend. If I accidentally commit some sort of a pharmaceutical miscalculation and can't type or put together a coherent thought, then Monday it is.

Have a great weekend -

Alright, so you can open the glass but not the liftgate. I don't think they changed them since '95....almost makes me want to look at mine...almost. I'll look into it, if you havn't figured it out yet....
