Fel Pro o ring

What the general opinion on the Felpro oil pickup tube o ring? I changed mine just about a year ago after noticing the pressure being low and now it's back to about where it was before. I can't image the o ring has lost its structural integrity already, but who knows where it's made nowadays. I previously changed the sending unit and filter screen too so I'm ruling that out. Should I just bite the bullet and buy a GM o ring and do this again? Before anyone asks yes I did lube the o ring when I put it in, so I'm guessing it isn't tore or compromised. As for pressure, at idle it's running below half on the gauge, which is in metric and I belive half is around 40psi. So with that I'd say idling it's got 30 psi give or take. It won't come over 40 until the engine is revving about 2000. This is an '08 5.3 too.

Re: Fel Pro o ring

I would look into what the normal oil pressure readings are for this engine.

Re: Fel Pro o ring

This engine always had strong oil pressure, around 50-55 psi, under normal operation. At idle it never used to drop below 40,now it does it regularly, especially once the oil is warm.

Re: Fel Pro o ring

Usually any leak in the oil pick up system can cause the oil to foam at higher rpms, as you would be drawing in air around the seal, you could check that, before going back into that seal issue.

Re: Fel Pro o ring

Did the oil pump pickup get upgraded? The 3-bolt design was produced to resolve just that kind of problem.

Re: Fel Pro o ring

The updated assembly looks like this:

The flange at the oil pump end bolts to the pump body and crushes the seal ring securely.
