Post '05 - '08 Grand Prix GXP Polished Aluminum Wheel Specifications

I came across this issue since I have two GXPs. Different stock 18" wheels depending on the manufacture date of the GXP. For all '05 - '08 models until June 2007 production you should have the Alcoa forged aluminum wheels shown in pic # 1. From July '07 and up to end of production the wheel shown in pic #2. The wheel in pic # 2 appears to be forged aluminum but do not have the markings. Also, the center caps are different along with some other differences in appearance. So when replacing your wheels due to accident damage or curb rash take note or you might get the wrong ones.

The specs are still the same:

Front = 18 X 8, wheel offset 40mm

Rear 18 X 7, wheel offset 55mm

The GM RPO code is the same for all - QR1

Pre-July '07 Production

July '07 and after production

Re: '05 - '08 Grand Prix GXP Polished Aluminum Wheel Specifications

I noticed the difference when I purchased the second GXP and figured there has to be a logical explanation meaning the GM bean counters got involved in the final production runs.

On the second GXP I have prior curb rash on two spokes so I'm in the process of replacing it and getting a credit on the old one. The links at Detroit Wheel and Tire below confirm the data too but I was able to pinpoint it to the exact month the change occurred.

Wheel #1

Wheel #2

Good info Bob, I guess I have never noticed the difference. The top on I think looks nicer too.
