Re: ALERO OWNERS Anyone have anti lock and off trac light on at same time?
danchan- I don't think anyone understood what you just said. Try using some punctuation, and I am sure it would make things alot easier for people to understand.
In the meantime can someone inform me on my last post ^. What should the resistance be for the wheel speed sensors? |

I'm not sure what kind of multimeter you are using, but if you can change the range, you would probably get 1000 and 1100, which are both in range. When I replaced mine, both of the new ones read 1050 exactly. The big difference between the two of yours might make a difference, but I'm no expert. The other test the manual suggests is to spin the wheel by hand as fast as you can and check the ac voltage. If it is over 100mV you are supposed to replace it also. Good luck. |

Re: ALERO OWNERS Anyone have anti lock and off trac light on at same time?
I've got this same problem (and every other Alero problem known to mankind); Even though I've got the three lights on, I'm not showing any codes. Does this eliminate the VSS and indicate hub/bearing failure?
Also, is a torque wrench the only specialty tool required for hub replacement? thanks |

It depends on what type scanner is used. Not all scanners will read GM Chassis/ABS codes. It must be ABS capable like a Tech II, etc. to tell you which wheel sensor is bad. A bad vehicle speed sensor (VSS) should cause other problems like erratic shifting and no speedometer reading so I doubt the VSS is the cause. Other tools required is a 36mm socket for the axle nut and technically a hub puller should be used to remove the hub from the axle shaft spindle. Sometimes they comeoff easy and other times they don't. The axle nut torque value ranges from 150 - 180 ft-lbs depending on what the hub manufacturer specifies. A new axle nut should be used.

Re: ALERO OWNERS Anyone have anti lock and off trac light on at same time?
I have replaced the right HUB assembly twice on my 2003 alero, and the 3 light are on once again. Has anyone ever found a resolution to this problem so that it doesn't happen again. What would be causing the HUB assemblies to wear out so quick?

Re: ALERO OWNERS Anyone have anti lock and off trac light on at same time?
The cause of the lights are either a bad bearing or bad wheel sensor...going back to the whole "sealed assembly" thing...when one goes out, the entire hub needs to be replaced. Its possible that this time you may have a bad hub on the opposite side.

My best advice is to buy one with a nice long warranty!

I am having the same problem with my '04 Alero with 55K miles on it. Is the replacement of the hub assembly difficult? Anything I should be aware of, or special tools needed?? Much thanks in advence!!!

Everything like steering and suspension components that attaches to the hub needs to be removed.

I have a 2004 with the same issue. I purchased the replacement at Auto-Pak for $116. How difficult is it to remove the old hub assy?

Re: ALERO OWNERS Anyone have anti lock and off trac light on at same time?
Well, I just did both sides of my girlfriends car on Tuesday night. Each side took me about an hour. As stated previously, get a 36mm socket to remove the nut, and I needed to get a hub puller ($25) to get my hub off.. But it was very easy!! Just break the hub nut free while still on the ground, remove the wheel, pull the caliper (2-bolts) and the 3 bolts that hold on the hub assly. Use the hub puller to remove the old hub assly. Might have to monkey with the sensor wires... but the one I just did has no ABS, so the wires were dead.. Then re-assemble. EASY!

Re: ALERO OWNERS Anyone have anti lock and off trac light on at same time?
Never mind fixing it. I've aready spent 1500. Two new hubs, and one bearing over 5 years. Anyone know how it can be safely disconnected. I don't need the ABS anyway!
