Those brakes are beautiful...you should leave the model with the wheels off

Ahh IC, i found it kinda hard to believe that you would take the incredible time to make that and put it on and not notice its upside down, yea now it has a better chance of being seen. Great work Lovin the progress

2 weeks of CF-ing and cutting out and fitting vacuform clear parts!!
Just to prove that I have made some progress in the meantime I have most of the body decals on but still quite a few left and then clear coating.

Re: WIP Aston Martin DBR9 by MFH
Ohh sweet Aston heaven... you made some nice progress I still haven't put one single decal on the body...
But can I make a request? I want to see the whole body How did you cut out the vacuform parts? I'm afraid I already messed up the windshield... Did you get your little care package already, tracking says no but it already took 7 days...? |

What I did was to first make paper templates of the kit body to put over the MFH parts to double check their molded in guides - I figured that it would be good in advance to know if they had got it wrong They hadn't. Next I used scissors to cut out each part individually leaving about a 1,5 km margin Then I slowly, bit by bit, cut it closer and closer until I was about 1mm away from the guide marks, test fitted and then started trimming down using sanding sticks and fine nail files from the supermarket. 2 scrapes...test fit...2 scrapes ... test it.... you get the idea. Did I mention that I test fitted very frequently? IMO the hardest are of course the headlight covers. Currently i am only 75% happy with those but final assembly and the edging decals will tell if I am being overly critical. I will need to polish out some mild scratches that happened even though I tried to be very careful. Also I am debating if/how to paint the tinting on the front windscreen, what side of the glass to put it on and whether or not to put Future/pronto on the vacuform windscreens. HTH The packet hasn't arrived yet - but I am missing about 5 packages at the moment Has mine arrived yet? Quote:

Great, Steve, great job. I'll well understand how you felt with vacuformed parts, I haven't any experience too with them....I'm sure you done something cool...

Re: WIP Aston Martin DBR9 by MFH
Nice!
I know what you mean about test fitting and sanding glass pieces. I had my fair share of that on my little Porsche. You'll see :-) I tried the Future treatment for my pieces....but it didn't work for me. Maybe i just didn't do it right. In the end i just polished and waxed the parts. |
