Going to be in South Africa in February? Perhaps a chance to see #023 in action

Attn to those in SA or who may be headed there towards the end of February:

Quote:
FMM Concours & Time Trial Event

ABOUT THE EVENT
The Franschhoek Motor Museum will host the FMM Concours and Time Trial, a glamorous celebration of classic cars, on the L’Ormarins wine farm on 27 & 28 February 2010.

Showcasing the most coveted cars, all produced between 1900 and 1980, it is a not-to-bemissed event on the social and motoring calendar.

The Time Trial:

Testing the capabilities of the finest vintage cars, the FMM Time Trial will see 50 classic cars put through their paces as they travel around a specially-designed circuit. The Time Trial will include 3 groups: A) speeds of 50km/h, B) speeds of 70km/h, and C) speeds of 90km/h – to accommodate the various pedigrees and speeds of these phenomenal machines. Each of the cars will make at least 4 runs around the custom course that can be viewed from designated areas on the farm.

The Concours

The Concours segment pays homage to 17th century French aristocracy, who paraded horsedrawn carriages through the parks of Paris. In the FMM Concours, the continent’s most exceptional vehicles will gather for critical review by a panel of motoring judges, as they are finely examined – from their upholstery and paint to the mechanical restoration under their vintage hoods.

SCHEDULE:

Saturday 27 February
07h00 Gates open
09h30 Time Trial starts
12h30 Lunch time special demonstrations
17h30 Last Time Trial runs
07h30 – 19h00 Pits open for guests to survey

Sunday 28 February
07h00 Gates open
09h30 Time Trial starts
11h30 Concours cars parade to private area for judging
12h30 Lunch time special demonstrations
17h30 Time Trial ends
18h00 Concours prize giving

For those not familiar, #023 is a recent addition to the Museum's collection, as of about the middle of 2009.

I am thinking this sounds like a pretty cool little event to attend in association with the Museum. If the McLaren F1 happens to be around, we'd all love to see some photos of course, or video if it is on the move.

Yes, it's a bit far for me too. I am hoping that Mike can make it.

Re: Going to be in South Africa in February? Perhaps a chance to see #023 in action

that was a quick reply....you do know there are some cameras that take some seriously big images........

If its there i will keep the images limited to 10mp. Because our bandwidth is very limited i could always put them on disc and send them via snail mail for the folks in europe to upload.

Well it appears that Mr Rupert's McLaren F1 was kept inside the Franschhoek Museum during their event. Some nice photos here - hopefully more will pop up in the usual places.

Actually check that - the F1 came out on Day Two:

Just noticed ... a HDF kit with stock wheels ...

Every HDF kit I've seen (in photographs, I'll add) have had the GTR-style wheels fitted.

Is this the only exception?

It is as far as I know. We've discussed the fact a few times when it was with its previous owner, Paul Stewart, back when he allowed Martin Brundle to use the car in his "Supercars" DVD.

If you look again, you'll see it doesn't have the additional fender flares in the front, and because of this the front splitter is not as wide. I've taken to calling it the Partial High Downforce Kit.

Wasn't 023 the one that had the smaller headlights as well?

I did notice, after I posted, the omission of the fender flares actually.

Wonder why ...

Not sure at all. It's not the only F1 I've ever seen with that nosepiece design, but the others were all 1995 F1 GTRs.

It was actually the car's previous, previous owner - Liam Howlett - who had the conversion work done. Perhaps he preferred it this way?

Missed this comment earlier, but no. That would be the car believed to be chassis #059. Pics of it are here:

It's good to see the unique pieces added by Paul Stewart - check out the steering wheel and centre caps on the wheels - are still there
