I would make my own car before I drove a Geramn or Jap car.
I would tell you to shoot first. before I would take one. |

WHAAAATTTT???? $250 my ass, I can get one for NZ$50 from one of the many scrapped Mk 2 Golf's.......
So yes it is practical Also what are the odds of Starters buggeringing up in a new VW??? ZERO for at least 6 or 7 years. I am guessing when you say that you would never drive a Jap car or German car that you are ruling out Supra, 911 Turbo, Skyline GTR, RX7, M3, M5, MINI Cooper S, MR2 Turbo, AMG Mercs and the JC Cosmo.......Too bad you are really missing out Come on name a domestic of recent better than any of those cars........Only the Viper and Corvette get close (But still fall short) |

Yes, but in his mind, a "chevy" is inherently better than any of those cars...
Keep in mind, an import of any kind can't compare in any way to his "chavuuh"

I guess I am gauging all front wheel drive baced on the experience I have had with Honda and Toyota. 2 transmissions, 3 water pumps, one starter. and yes the starter cost $250. but I guess if it has the name Honda stamped on it," it must be made of Gold", and even so at the time I liked the car. and oh did I mention the fact the thing would never stay in tune. the story is simalar with a front wheel drive Buick I drove for a while.
and the Toyota Pickup ran fine just a gutless wonder. but then I really tried to do real things with like tow something. and I don't figure 8 mi per gallon is worth it. but I guess within the design parameters of the thing it worked as promised. but then it was rear wheel drive. I live in the moutainoust Northwest so it may be harder on things than what you are used to. and Yes I do drive Chevy half ton and it has given me no more problems than the toyota. but don't lack for ability. AND I just Guess I take Pride in the products made in the land of my birth. the Good ol US of A. Pride is a good thing. If your from Japan I can understand taking Pride in the Produts made there too. people say American Cars are crap. but only after we tryed to copy every one else. the cars we have stuck to the spirit of our automotive heritage, "are truly great cars." I wonder why we have turned from ourself. and acknowledge everything else. do we lothe our self so much? |

Apparently you don't realize this, but about half the "imports" are now made in the good 'ol US of A.

It's the same as manufacturers. Every country makes good cars, and every country makes bad cars. You dislike the front drivers, I can agree there. I don't like front drive much at all, the only benefits it has are in bad weather, and an AWD vehicle works much better for that!
Keep in mind, that although it is good to have pride in ones country, the US has never made as good cars as the Germans, and it's not likely they ever will. Not to take anything away from American cars, but the Germans make unbelievably good cars. So where in the NW are you from? I live in a nice coastal town in BC.

Well my close experience with German cars. is the Rabbit and Bug. the Bug is an interesting Concept. Simple in design however limited in capacity and ability, but for the time innovative. The Rabbit, a better overall designs. But still limited. Not to ruffle any feathers, this is my opinion. The Rabbit did not inspire me.
I know someone who has had Mercedes and he liked them. he was particularly impressed with the fuel injuction system. I have no first hand knowledge of them. as far as where am I from. Ever hear of Moscow? |

I can imagine how beetles and rabbits might jade you a little... Find out a little bit about the new BMW 5 and 7 series, or the MB SL500... the new SL500 is IMO the perfect car... it's got all sorts of fancy new gadgets, like self adjusting suspension, power folding hardtop, 3 different kinds of traction control... handles like a sports car, goes like a muscle car, and rides like a rolls royce...
