Quiet Compressor
Guys, I need some help. I am just starting to learn how to use an airbrush, Badger 360, and want to purchase a quieter compressor than my 2 ½ hp garage model. I am thinking of a reconditioned Thayer & Chandler Air Star V, SilentAir Scorpion II or the Iwata Sprint Jet. Which would be the quietest of these units? I read somewhere that the Scorpion II is 30dB.
I would also like to keep above 35 - 40 lbs working pressure, but under $200.00 Someone in another forum also mentioned the Makita Mac700. Thank you for your help. SlotRacer |

Re: Quiet Compressor
Why do you want to spray at such a high pressure, you shouldn't be airbrushing anywhere outside the 25 to 45 psi range.
Personally, I like the Iwata SmartJet but I think the Silentair is actually quieter.

I owned an Iwata Smartjet and had tested the Silentair Scorpian I and II at the store before I bought my Smartjet.
I would say the SmartJet is quieter even though it still creates a little noise if you live in an apartment and wanna use it in the middle of the night like me. |
