Need some help ... about SKYLINE ENGINE ... !!!
Ok here is my problem ... ???
I want to have the body of a 300zx and the Power Plant of a Skyline ... ??? I am Curently in the process of buying an RB26DETT ... it is the full engine ... untill recently i was too cought up with getting a good engine and not all the parts that are needed ... !!! Now I found the Engine it will cost me $ 3,800 US (Near mint condition) (Not a single oil leak and so on ... ) (Includes the Transmission) Ok ... I have a 1992 300zx ... If i was to rip out the VG30DE and have a RB26DETT installed would i need to use the computer of a Skyline or use the 300zx one ... <THINKING> RB26DETT = SKYLINE ... so ... SKYLINE ENGINE = SKYLINE COMPUTER ... so ... SKYLINE ... Digital Display ... 300ZX ... Not Digital Display ... ??? ... so ... <CONFUSED> ... what do i do ... As well as ... would i be able to get the AWD power of the Skyline in the 300Z ... ??? i know i know mst of you are thinking ... if you want that then just go get a Skyline ... ... not that i would mind .... but when i go to the car next car show ... i want me a specific TROPHY ... !!! And by the way ... [SKYLINE = $ 95,000 [HERE]] 300ZX = $ 3,000 to 8,000 RB26DETT = $ 3,500 [Hybrid 300ZX = $ 6,500 to 11,500 ] Owning One of either........................ = Priceless ... ... !!! ... I greatly appreciate the help ... i just want to be able to take on any one around my neghbour hood ... and get it all without sponsorships ... so i can claim it to be my pride and glory ... Thanx in advance for all the help ... |

I am not trying to rain on your parade, but it is going to cost a lot to do what you want.
Yes, you will need the GTR wiring harness, ECU, and Dash instruments. Skyline digtal display, I am lost on that one. AWD, probably not. That would be too much work. There is one guy that has done the mod in a 240z(I think) he is sometimes on at www.freshalloy.com

I need a lot of $$$ ... ???
:bandit: OK ... and ... $$$ is not an option ... i want power and i want to go 200MPH ... once i hit that i will live happy ... ... I only want the car for under R34 SKYLINE price .... that is all ... i have 300z and i found the RB26 for my car ... while i am at it screw the ECU ... I'll look for a STANDALONE SYSTEM that will replace it ... allthough it would be sooooooooooo cool to have the skyline digital display ... Ohhhhhhhh well ... allthough i am a genious when it comes to wires ... he he he ... :silly2: I connected a computer flat screen in my brothers car ... to his dvd player ... it is soooooooo much better than the 7.5inch screens they sell for soooooooo munch ..... !!! I wonder if i could find a way to put a flat screen display instead of the gauges ... ??? that would look soooooooo cool ... I'll look into it ... I'll upload a pic of the engine latter ... when i find the PIC AND 1 MORE TIME .... I KNOW IT WILL COST A LOT TO HAVE THE ENGINE IN THERE ... The engine i found for 3,500 has rb26dett ... the stock turbos are on it ... has the transmission .. harnes ... the engine basicly needs only to be put into the car and connected to ECU, Headers, and Driveshaft ... so the thing is complete as is ... !!! |

A few things I've seen done here....RB26DETT have been put in a few cars 240ZX, GTS-Ts, CEFIROs..and a few others. Or check out....... This guy Mat who works at Motorworx. Go to (http://www.motorworx.tv/) They give a little break down on engine rebuilds blah blah. Basically if you want you can get a gts-t from Mortorex(different) for about 18grand and throw the RB26DETT into it. The mounts shouldnt be a problem just need the ECU/ harness stuff. And I almost wanna say you can fit it to a RB25DET Tranny. Dont quote me its just what I've heard. Of course I can get you some more names of some guys who stuck with a VG30DETT and are doing just fine. 300ZXs Are too heavy for me.

The biggest concern I can see is the length of the RB motor into that shallow but wide engine bay of a 300ZX.
Next would be the mounting of the motor and gearbox. The GTR gearbox is a 4wd unit and will NOT fit under your zed properly. You are better of selling that (worth quite a bit to motorex) and picking up an RB25DET 5 speed. That gearbox should be fine to about 475- 500hp before you need to go to an O/S giken gear set. A stand-alone computer system will work fine, providing your current instrament cluster runs off a factory stand a lone system. I would suggest a wire in system. Plug in is fine but unless you have someone with the complete wiring diagram in english of the skyline loom you will spend a fortune having it traced and such. Go with an SX fuel pump for that part and get larger fuel lines feeding the fuel rail from the tank. You will also need the front mount as the factory Zed I/C's are not even close to being effient enough for what you want.

Here's an RB25DET in a 300zx:
It can be done, they love doing hybrid conversions in Japan. Here's the page with quite a few, including another alternative, the SR20DET in a 300zx. http://www.meggala.com/hybridscss.htm For actual conversion and costs, you'll have to contact a place that specializes in that. Here's a couple of good places to contact. 300zx specialists: http://www.jimwolftechnology.com/ Engine swap specialists: http://mckinneymotorsports.com/

Re: Need some help ... about SKYLINE ENGINE ... !!!
you will need the wiring harness for the RB motor, an r33 rb25det transmission, rb26 ecu, the stock fan will not fit, you will most likely have to switch to a pusher fan setup. The mounts will be custom, as will the downpipes and exhaust. try calling mckinney motorsports to see if they have done this swap, or if they know what else is required.

Re: Need some help ... about SKYLINE ENGINE ... !!!
The RB25DET driveshafts should mate with the 300zx TT yolk quite nicely. Another reason the 2-5 would do better. Besides, most drag GT-R's that I have seen run single turbo conversions anyways.

i dont know how well it will work in a 300 but in a 240, they use the rb25det RWD(rear wheel drive) transmission( 1200$ ) with the rb26dett motor, because the rb26 comes stock with an AWD(all wheel drive) transmission. even with that, your probably gonna have mounting problems, they make mounts for the 240 so with enough research and $$$$(a lot), im sure u can accomplish it.

Re: Need some help ... about SKYLINE ENGINE ... !!!
i know this doesnt matter much but youl need an rb25 oil pan 2 the oil pan on the rb26 actually has the front differential in it and the rb25 and the rb26 are the same engine block so the trans and the oil pan will bolt right up
