Honda S800 Racing - Tamiya 1/24
My new build, obviously Honda
![]() Tamiya model is a little disappointment mainly due to lots of ejector pin marks. Secondly, molding quality varies in different car parts. Anyway, probably it will not be as challenging as FW10. ![]() ![]() I have used brass rod as new shaft. It looks better and make fitting easier. Differential housing is als modified. ![]() ![]() ![]() I have checked body and chassis fitment and it is so tight that I am afraid about final completion. I will have to make clearances bigger to avoid forcing body panels when mounting. I may and up cracking decals and/or paint ![]() Body has been sanded with 3M polishing sponge. First coat of Tamiya primer already sprayed on. ![]() Last edited by Macio4ever; 12-21-2009 at 01:43 PM. |

Re: Honda S800 Racing - Tamiya 1/24
I'm happy to see this one being built. I love the car and this racing version of it. I have the kit and don't recall noticing any mold-quality issues when I examined it. Anything in particular you're referring to?

Re: Honda S800 Racing - Tamiya 1/24
Well, I refer to inconsistent quality. Despite ejector pin marks [4 on the bonnet, 8 on interior in hard to reach places] some parts are very well molded (body), some of them not . Imho dash board, front suspension are not up to what I expected.
This is nothing major. Maybe I am a bit picky ![]() Wheels are finished. They are painted with Alclad II Duraluminium, washed with Tamiya smoke and clear coated with Gunze TopCoat semi-gloss. ![]() Last edited by Macio4ever; 12-21-2009 at 01:44 PM. |

You're doing an excellent job, especially with those wheels.

Cool little sports car! It's shame that no one produce the hard top fast back model! Awaiting for your updates!

Re: Honda S800 Racing - Tamiya 1/24
Decided to add some more details. Tamiya has simplified engine what can be seen on pics.
I started with dizzy cap, next will be alternator and auxiliary belt. ![]() ![]() |

I'am playing with my new Proxxon micro mill. I am very pleased with the effects! HAPPY! On the pics you may see bonnet and milled air intake. Milled gaps 0.4mm width, 2mm length. Gaps are every 1mm. Time required: about 5 minutes. ![]() |

Where do you get your 0.4mm milling cutters from? I'll be checking out this WIP as I have the 1/12th street version waiting to be built. |

Re: Honda S800 Racing - Tamiya 1/24
I got the cutters from this shop: http://www.frezycnc.eu/ I choose ProMetric type which is cheap and suitable for my modeling needs. Seems to be a good choice - no plastic melted at all.
