closing threads is a moderator's way of feeling important and usefull, kind of like when somebody buys a pickup truck but has nothing to haul in it...

And the tv etc forum is in Off Topic, the most logical place it would be. Think about it for a minute.

I think the thread title should be, "not so bright members".
Since when does a tv forum have anything to do with movies or music?

How am I supposed to discuss current affairs if I don't know what is going on in other countries? It was just a question. Like freakray said there is 2 sides that you could look at this from, my question to you is why did you remove the posts? Let everyone make up their own minds and see the thread that I posted. It wasnt offensive, didnt use any bad words, why did you decide it should be removed?

You could always use the internet.....there are plenty of informative news websites on the net....
Examples:
General International News:
www.cnn.com
Want to know what is happening in South Africa?
www.iafrica.com

1>I usually go to a theater to see a movie, instead of waiting for it to be on TV a year later. I dont like waiting. 2>I like personal info from people who live in other countries. Anyone can put anything on the internet, you never know if you should believe it or not.

There are forums on iafrica.com too, and since I am in contact with people in South Africa, I can tell you there ain't no bullshit on there.

Why aren't you honest, and just say:
"I am too lazy to spend time reading the news sites to create my own opinions and instead would rather be spoon-fed the information based upon other peoples opinions of the situation"

You see, I am only just recently resident in the USA, and have lived all over the world, so I can tell you a lot, but I would only tell you what I want you to know, so that you will formulate the opinion I want you to have, but if you go on several news sites and read several reports of the same thing, you will be able to form your own opinion on the matter.

You are going to tell me that news agencies dont sometimes put a spin on things. Becase there are a lot of people who would disagree with you(I can name a few on this forum). I like to hear info from someone who is there and sees it, not someone halfway around the world that decides to write a story based on things they heard or were told. You can get your info your way and I will get mine my way.

For anyone that's lost, here's where (what's left of...) the thread in question from the first post is:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t96096.html
..which was inspired by this post:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...412#post871412

Note: the first post (which is now "hidden" - see my comments on that below) in the closed thread is the same as the second link.

freakray has pretty much covered everything I would have said on that matter. If you want to learn about the world, by all means, seek that info out. Don't demand it be delivered to you.

Furthermore, I recommend Google News, as it is all compiled from ~4,500 sources by computer algorithms without human input (and arguably, bias. more about that...)

I removed the second and third posts in that thread; they were made by Americans, and they were off-topic.
I don't know who removed yours. I didn't, or if I did, it was an error, because I had no intention to do so. I'd have to get back to you on that.

I understand that it is not offensive to you, but the way it was presented implies that Americans need not answer for their actions. It is this type of thing that leads to the perception of "American arrogance."

On the other hand, if you were to simply rephrase the post so that it applied equally to everyone (all countries in this case), I would have found no fault. If you would have PM'd me, I'd have told you the same, and probably given you the opportunity to revise your thread in such a way.

In fact, if you go now and start a thread asking anyone from any country to post what they think their country has done to help or hurt the world..., etc. I would have no objection, provided that it's presented fairly to all parties.

Closing threads is a moderators way of stopping a topic getting worse, stopping a flame war, closing a useless or off topic post, closing a post that is out of the forum guidelines etc. Sometimes followed up by a banning if a certain member gets out of hand.

It is not a power trip.

Sometimes a mod does something you don't agree with. Boo hoo hoo. Baby gonna have a cry now? Deal with it. PM the mod and discuss it with him or her, don't bring it into the open so that everyone else gets involved.

Don't post stuff that's inflammatory. That thread was.

Fin.
