2000 chev 2500

Had a loud bang in rear of truck driving down the road. Seemed like the diff blew out. As it rolled to a stop could hear a ticking noise coming from the rear end. Stopped checked everything seemed fine. Drove ok after all the way home. Happened again when hit a bump in the road. Stopped again to check everything looked ok. Whats up with that?

Springs are fine. Axle seals were changed in the fall. Sometimes it will clunk really heavy when I accelerate after backing up. Universal joints are ok.

If you have the G80 locking rear end, it could be an issue with that. For sure, pull the cover and look for any thing wrong.

with a 2500 if its 2wd then very possible you have OPEN DIFF.. If you have 4WD then you have the eaton locker diff. with this type diff I would also recommend removing the diff cover and rotate the axles to inspect all the gear teeth and any other metal . wash out with mineral spirits paint thinner low odor is what I use and install the 75-90wt synthetic gear lube .. I use the mobil gear lube. how many miles on this ?

check RPO codes for gear type /diff type..
