Porsche RSR Turbo 1974

here again.
This time I will make some mess over an old scrapped body I found around. It is the Esci Porsche RSR Turbo in 1:24 scale.
I really dunno why I started it now. Just few days ago I bought an already finished one by Reneissance.Quite nice honestly.
Will not consider the MFH kit, cause it is imho disappointing compared to their usual kit quality.

Just cant resist to work over so nice and brutal car of the 70s.Like a lot her appeal, so far away from modern plastic-electronic toys.

The idea to rework it started after I seen the nice model done by Riccardo Zanelli (from MFH) and after noting decaldoc made a decal sheet for the martini livery.
Those old Esci kits today become quite pricey, this is absolutely not worthed.Inside the box the only decent part is the carrosserie (with some problems to fix..), all the rest is mistaken and first of all, is nearly impossible to finish the model straight from the box, cause wheels are horrible and out of size.
This car used the wheels from the 917.Have some of theme from old models(union and fujimi). all the inner part must be-eventually- rebuild.
At today I dunno if I will ever finish this model.Just u know....is modelling time !

What I get is this "object":

The original kit is stuff from 30 yrs ago. It has been build about 15 yrs ago by my friend Filmon (minkia filo...), recently taken by Gionc Inc. and then resold to a drug dealer of Bergamo area . After some callings and prisoners exchange I finally got it,together with the already mentioned Gionc resin whatever SC body.
My main problem was to clean this body from the paintS used on it.In italy I know what cleaning stuff use for this job.here in sweden I had to ask to Lars LMracer, and he gave me some very important (and absolutely correct) tips on how to do it here.Tusen tack min kompis !

all the rear vents must be open..

Great,another RSR.
I will sit in the first line and watch with interest.
Maybe this will give me the input to continue with my RSR?
regards
Christian

Re: Porsche RSR Turbo 1974

thank u all guys

@Cris : keep on going man. Your model adventures are awesome.I started to plan on this kit AFTER u started your incredible big sister there

@ all : always thank u guys will try to make my best.

so,a closer comparison between what I have and the real pics show some mistakes done by esci: for example I noted front air intakes in the model are squared, while in the real car they are full round RSR type. This is a simple part but not so easy to correct. Sawing all the front end of my 935 (now 3.0 RSR) I didnt trash the plastic inner part. I plan to make a deep surgeon of those...

as well as all the big air Naca ducts must be rework and opened.
esci plastic is deadly thick, but the time they never used recycled plastic, so also today is very easy to work with it.

Filmon cutted the front bonnet, so better close it and fill with putty, superglue and plasticard. I will keep this body as a curbside, maybe also here with the idea to prepare a simple reworked better body for anyone wanting to make a decent rsr turbo using the nicest racing porsche around (the tamiya 934 imho..)
also Closed the front arrows. some cars had it, I like it more without..

Re: Porsche RSR Turbo 1974

Hi Paolo,

I have the same model in 1/20 scale, and I wanted to point out a shape problem, that Nitto made in both the 1/20 and 1/24 versions. It's not easy to put in words or sketch, but the roof line around the rear window is not very good. They forgot a fold line, approximately where the original rain rail runs. It results in a hump-back shape that is really ugly once you see it. Also, the transition of the roof into the wing support should be more rounded in side-view. I sketched both with dashed lines in your photo. Compare your model to some photos and I'm sure you will see what I mean.

Rob

Re: Porsche RSR Turbo 1974

hum hum....think I understood what u mean. Looking closely all my pics here:
https://plus.google.com/photos/10891...217?banner=pwa

maybe I am still able to (try fix it in some way). it is a detail that if u (as I did) dunno, u will not note. Now u mention that, and I see it allover.More and more...
Think I understood...let me think something on how to fix it
...for now..REALLY THANK U, cause if the model would be some days forward suspect can be already too late...

Yep, once you see it, it becomes very visible! I haven't tried yet to correct it on my 1/20 version. I think you will sand through the plastic thickness before the humpback is gone.

I see the front cover off on your model. I guess it was closed originally? On my 1/20 version the doors are separate, but the front and rear (engine) covers are closed. I guess on the 1/24 model everything is closed?

If you need some inspiration for your model, take a look here:

Re: Porsche RSR Turbo 1974

Yes Rob,think the original model was closed in the front bonnet.Probably this was a trial somebody did to make it even more detailed, with few success . Model was already build and used, but thats not so big problem anyway.

Think I fixed the rear bodyshape.thanks god Esci plastic thickness is impressive. I mostly used a dime coming from old resin body to mark the line where to cut and reshape che rear Pillar. It worked quite good. When I was looking at the model at first sight also I noted something in rear shape was missing or mistaken (seems more a beetle than a Porsche..). It was this line.
Will show little fwd this step, cause actually I am little more advanced in rework the body than the few pics I posted till now. Think I did anyway.

Re: Porsche RSR Turbo 1974

Varnish (found 3 layers) stipped off. front arrows closed and started open all holes and air vents. This car didnt had the waterdrop lines on roof.

(here the rear pillar with mistaken body line.More clear than ever...and i didnt note it O.O...)
Cap filler hole opened , rear wheels vents open. I will take away rear window frame from the cockpit and replace with a naca duct in both sides..

Re: Porsche RSR Turbo 1974

the front brakes air intakes are in position. they come from the tamiya 935 model I used to make the 3.0 RSR. Easy fitting with few putty, and the inner part is now ending correctly rounded

then I removed the rear window frames to place the side air intakes, as used in some race configurations

(here the mistaken rear pillar is evident more than ever...)
