Trouble Starting 2000 Altima

2000 Altima GXE 2.4l manual tran

Within the last few months occasionally my altima won't start. When I turn the key the display lights dim and there are no engine noises. It happens randomly once or twice every few weeks. Usually if it doesn't start, I wait a while, try again, mess with lights, switches etc. If it still won't start, it always jumps successfully. Once, it died while I was driving it, sitting at a red light. After about five minutes fooling around with trying to start it, it started again.

I had the battery tested, it is ok, not perfect.
I cleaned the battery terminals up and it didn't have issues for about a month, then wouldn't start the other day.
About the same time that this all started (can't remember how well the two things line up) I got a non-transponder key made for the doors. I tried to start the car with it, to see what would happen. The engine turned over and then died.
Also around the same time, my service engine soon light came on, but I figured it was just emissions.

Any ideas?

Re: Trouble Starting 2000 Altima

If the battery is >4years, buy a new battery 1st.

I have seen some transient BCM problems -> P0420 '' Low catalyst '' H20 heated oxygen sensors not doing there job, because of a marginal battery.

Car died randomly, and having troubles starting, even jumping. I got a new battery for free from walmart. Mine was just over two years old, so still under free replacement. So far so good, but in the past, issues have occurred pretty randomly, so we'll see.
