It *HAS* to be enamel, just like Alclad. It won't stick to any other paints. The finish needs to be absolutely smooth again, just like alclad. Other than that, I haven't the slightest clue...

Re: Alclad II vs. Kosutte Gin San...bye, bye Alclad!
This stuff looks pretty sweet, but for the price, shipping, and hassle of getting it, I'd just stick to my Alcald which I can get down the street. Looks like a jar of the stuff would last quite a while, though.
Too bad all the best stuff comes from overseas. I just mocked up an order at Hiroboy of a few small things that I would really, really love, and it turns out shipping was over 50 bucks. Sigh, one day... |

I have some but have not tried it yet. A guy told me it works the best on a shiny gray surface. I don't think it matters what paint it is. I don't think it has to be painted

The chrome effect is SOOOOOOOOO much better than Alclad, it's hard to state exactly how much better it is. Almost completely mirror-like. Its effect is amazing. Definitely worth it, if that's what you're going for. |

If you want, try it on lacquers or acrylics. It will rub off. You can wash it off easily with soap and water. It's always best to prove it to yourself and not just believe me... |

For those who say its expensive, our hobby is, period. But I did find the exact same thing for $10 on ebay however I have no clue if it works to the same quality...

Re: Alclad II vs. Kosutte Gin San...bye, bye Alclad!
Oh, it's expensive alright! But it's one of the few things I actually enjoy spending money on. It's not so much the product that's the problem, it's always the shipping from online stores. That's why I get the majority of my stuff off of eBay...
I see some higher end Tamiya kits in my local hobby shop for $70-80. I can get the exact same thing from Hong Kong on eBay for less than half that usually. But, if I go to an online store, they charge an arm and a leg for shipping. I think one day, I'll just put in one big order from Hiro Boy and put up with the brutal international shipping rates. |

I just mean the Zero Paints, really. I've heard they're fantastic, and would really, really like to try some. Also, I've when ordering these paints from overseas, there's no guarantee that they won't be seized and held by customs and tossed aside.

I was going to put in a large order from ZP but for $37 worth of paint, I had to pay $37 in shipping! Yikes!

I've come to expect from ZP that shipping will be 50% more on top of the price of the items
The packaging is lovely though |
