Knowledgeable Honda owner needs ignition help
Hi guys,
I have a 1993 civic. I believe i have this problem narrowed down to the coil but i would like some other opinions before i order this part. Problem: Driving down the and car died. Power was still on but just died. Car would not start because i now have no spark from the distributer. What i have Tested/Replaced: I replaced dist.cap and rotor. I tested the coil. Primary resistance is at 1.1 Ohms and secondary is at 13kOhm. For the icm i have 12 volts (when connected to coil) across the two wires that connect to the coil. With coil disconnected and light bulb in place of it, it turns off and on when i turn it over. This tells me that everything b4 the icm and output of icm is ok. 1). The recommended primary resistance is between .6 and .8 ohms were mine is 1.1 ohms. Could this be the coil or icm problem? 2). Also could an icm ever "kind of " work? what i mean is could the icm be switching but not be outputting enough voltage to the coil? Let me know if i was not descriptive enough. Thanks for any help

Replaced the coil and she runs!! You cannot always go by the resistance test I guess.

most of the time i replace them together.. if 1 just went out the other is soon to follow.. and yes the icm does act intermitent, but so does the coil when it goes bad.. i have known good ones laying around so when it happens i can test which one is bad..if you get an msd coil youll elliminate the coil problem

And yes, the icm almost always dies slowly. Youll notice the tach jumping first, and if you are lucky will throw and icm error code before she goes. But the coil and icm are best to be replaced together unless your doing it for diagnostic elimination purposes.
