'77 Dodge M880 Electrical Problem - Headlights / Circuit Breaker

My '77 Dodge M880 (Military Issue) headlights shut off after about 30 minutes of use, more quickly if I use my high beams. The circuit breaker in the fuse box trips when this happens. The lights come back on shortly...I'm assuming after the circuit cools down. How can I locate and correct this problem? Locating the problem is the key here! Thanks.

I would make sure your grounds to the headlights are tight and not corroded. Could be you also just have a weak breaker.

bad breaker, loose connections on those darn Mil spec connections. Solder them all. we used to replace the whole darn harness when they would start acting up like this. otherwise, try the headlamp switch and finally the headlamps themselves can cause this symptom.

i would check at the plug on the headlight dimmer switch see if the connection is poor creating a resistance triping the breaker
