Re: "Slowass" got humbled

Some where lurking in VA beach there is a LS1 Miata. I have had a couple of friends talk to the guy and confirm the swap. I have never seen it in action but its gotta be a mean car.

Re: "Slowass" got humbled

its called monster miata. put that in you tube and it comes up. that would ruin the car for me prob, unless the engine weighs the same or similar and maybe some carbon fiber and a battery relocation kit would lkeep the 50-50. but that wouldn't be true would it?

Re: "Slowass" got humbled

I doubt the LS1 miata really suffers at all with the conversion. Its pretty well proven that the RX7s that have been converted only gain a significant power advantage, and some reliability. I have read someone has an LS1 miata that weighs 2140 pounds

besides the new gen, the battery is already in the trunk for the miata.

I'd love to do a MX-5.0, but the kit alone cost 4G's, a little too much for me right now. Plus Id' prolly have to get a shop to swap it out, so tack on more for labor. :-/

Re: "Slowass" got humbled

yeah it would be awesome. but the 302 and the ls1 dont really weigh all that much. im sure it wouldnt be that hard to get 50/50 dist. with them. but you would have to figure out your new spring configuration right.

Re: "Slowass" got humbled

how about i just get the miata first, and worry about that later? lol. im glad this car is still there after being there for 2 months. the supercharger system from jackson racing is looking good, so is the flyin, and the v8 swap. too many choices. i wonder if a k24 would work, as i see there is a company that put one in the newest mr2 and runs 12s w/o any mods. dont think it would work though.

Re: "Slowass" got humbled

Yeah I just checked another forum regarding someone who has done the swap and they said that the LS1 is no heavier than the iron 4 cylinder that was in it stock. The weight distribution remains the same.

You've got a long way to go buddy.
I'll give you some great advice that you should listen to. I have year and years of racing experience over you, so I think I know what I'm talking about.
Anyways, my advice is to sell the car and get something light. It's not big engines and torque that win races, its weight loss that truly matters.
If you want to be competitive, I would say build a turbo Civic or something along those lines.

you make no sense...next time you type, think!!!

Re: "Slowass" got humbled

Drop an LS1 into an 93-95 RX7 and you make the car 50/50.
Adds a little weight, but makes the distribution perfect.

I have heard similiar about the Miatas. But I am not sure what the distribution is with the LS1.

The LS1 is quite a bit lighter than the 302. The LS1 tends to be lighter than most any motor...including a lot of 4 cylinders.

Should be the same, they're the same motors basically with minor differences.

I think the crankshaft is different, not sure what though... maybe wrong. But they have a different intake manifold (01+ LS1's got the LS6 intake), different heads, different cam shaft and valve train and I believe the exhaust manifolds might be slightly different.

If there is a difference, it'd be minor.
