Hi everybody, I posted a message couple of days ago that my blower fan makes a loud squeeking sound. Well that problem went away (knock on wood) when it rained heavely last night. But now my passanger side carpet is wet!!!! How is that happening?!? Where is the water coming from? What could be the cause?? Any ideas please respond it will be greatly appreciated, Thanks |

You probably have a plugged drain hose for the blower motor/cowl. You can fix this yourself. Open your hood and look on the firewall on the passenger side, behind the engine. You'll see the drain hose coming out of the firewall and pointing down. It pulls out kinda like a grommet. Pull it out and unclog it. Installation is reverse of removal. The hose isn't cut that clean so at a glance it may look like you broke it but look closer and you'll see that it was molded that way.

Re: Passenger side carpet wet...
Hiya.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the water most likely leaked through your blower motor and washed the lubricant off the bearing. Over time, the squeak will come back, then the AC light will flash when the you run the fan on high (as the fan is overheating from resistance to the blower and shut off temporarily). The resistor will probably go out as well, and you will have one speed (if your leak is similar to mine). The squeak will occur more and more frequently until the fan does not work all together. This happend, I have a leak on the passanger side, and replaced a burned out resistor, and a seized up fan motor. The blower did not turn at all, and the inside of the motor was rusted from the water going through. The fan squeaked occasionally got it, and after 8 months, we had to replace it, which is how we know it had water through it. I am guessing you could buy some time if you take off the black air recirculating hose on the fan motor and spray some lubricant in the motor. In the meantime, the motor runs about $90 when it does finally go, and installs fairly easily. Good luck! Seems like these Intrigues have some quirks. Quote:

The water was coming thru the blower fan. The bearing got rusted and had to replace the whole fan. Its been raining cat and dogs past few weeks and carpet is still dry, so i'm OK for now. Thanks, -M |

How do you stop the leak? Our blower fan is already out and i know that we are going to have to replace it. But, how do we stop the leak so that it doesn't happen again. Thanks, Sandy |

Re: Re: Re: Re: Passenger side carpet wet...
you need to find that drain/vent hose first and see if it's clogged. Should be going thru the lower firewall somewhere = unclog this hose first.
IF this still doesn't stop the problem look at the seal between the windshield and the plastic wiper covering. These plastic screws (3) holding on the cover are hard to get off. The one screws out and is easy the others are expansion screws and the top screw part must be pulled from the expansion base. I actually just drilled into them and pulled them out. Really you don't even need to do this = just silicone caulk the seal between the glass and plastic for now since it's winter. I took mine off so many times dealing with my wipers, my foam seal got compressed and I think my leak was coming from there. But check that vent tube first. |

Wet passenger floor
I had the same problem in my 01 Intrigue. Remove the cover under the wiper on the passenger side, should be 2 or 3 screws. There is a piece of weatherstripping that redirects water that should be on the metal edge closest to the windshield. I think mine was probably knocked loose when the windshield was replaced . This then lets water in through a pollen filter and it goes into the blower motor then onto the floor. I replaced both the blower motor and the resistor. The motor was very rusted out. I bought the blower asbly from an AC-Delco distributor for around 115.00. I originally went to Auto Zone in MA but the one they gave me needed to be spliced onto the existing wiring; no connectors. So check the box before you leave the store.

Re: Passenger side carpet wet...
Forgive me for reviving an old post, but does anyone have a pic of the drain hose location? I searched for 45 minutes the other day on a '98 intrigue (3.8) to no avail.
